Disabling Alarm setting 'beep'?

Hi folks,

A search on the forum didn't reveal anything, but a Google search found a way to disable the annoying alarm beeps on Alfas using a sequence of button presses etc. Is there nothing similar to disable the Maserati's alarm beeps?

Thanks,

~Chris

Good question and one which has been asked many time. All I can find on the net for an Alfa is this procedure (who wants to try it on a Maser?)

I checked on elearn, and country codes for 159 are the same. Procedure for manual setting of country code on 147 (and most probably same on 159):

UK = 2, Holland = 4 (no beeps)

The operating mode can be changed by diagnostic instrument or the following manual procedure:

set the ignition key to Key-On;
activate the hazard warning flasher
press the rear fog light control button and hold it down
using the ignition key, carry out the following sequence in strict order: Key-Off , Key-On , Key-Off, quickly in sequence, starting from the Key-On state, always holding down the rear fog light button.
at the end of the sequence, the siren emits 5 beeps to indicate the activation of programming.
release the rear fog light switch and press it again the same number of times as the desired mode (each press gives a feedback beep). so 4 times to set to Dutch
If the button is pressed for an invalid number of times (e.g. greater than the number of available operating modes), the siren emits 5 beeps and is cancelled and the country code is not changed:

set the ignition key to the Key-On position within 10 s of the last press on the rear fog light button.
the siren emits the same number of beeps as the number which indicates the selected operating mode: each beep lasts 1 s and is followed by a 0.5 s pause.
at the end of the beeps, set the key to the Key-Off position: the BC is programmed in the new operating mode.

Thanks for the reply Phil. I did try the Alfa 'sequence' and it didn't work, though I may have done it incorrectly...

I'll try it again later. If I succeed, I'll be back to let you know :)

The 3200/4200 is the same system as many alfas so it should work or it may be an old wives tale???

Yep...should work...all that pressing of buttons with the ignition on results in a flat battery and no more 'beeps'

:D

(Can anyone explain what annoying beeps I should be getting?)

Hahah! Yes, no more beeps with a flat battery :)

Murph, I'm referring to the loud beeps when you unlock or lock the doors with the remote. It's so **** loud that I always worry I'm disturbing the neighbours.

Hey. Just bumping an old thread. I assume no one found an easy way to disable the beeps?

My neighbour find the bleeps for irritating than the start up !
So I lock with the key when at home, no alarm and no bleeps.

The beeps are annoyingly loud. I presume it is the alarm siren that is used for the beeping.

@conaero managed to accidentally disable the beeps when I was last at SportsItalia, but by the time I had got home they were back again. He says it is probably a problem with the siren battery not charging properly, so dying after a battery disconnect.

My last QPV had no beeps, because the siren battery was dead supposedly, but Migliore spent ages trying to fix it - replacing the siren, etc, and never got it working. I can't remember if we tested it as an alarm, or just for the locking beeps. So maybe it was a setting not a fault....

I suppose another option is just packing the siren with some foam or something, to make it a bit quieter. After all nobody pays attention to car alarms.

This worked for the over-loud water alarm I fitted in the boot. I just opened the box and stuffed it with blutac.

OK, 20 minutes in the Google rabbit-hole and it seems like the word is that you should somehow set the alarm country code to '4 - Holland', or carry out a set of magic steps that are top secret and different for each car type. These include the one described above, pressing lock and unlock together for 5 seconds, or this amazing ritual for a Subaru: https://www.instructables.com/Mute-Your-Cars-Lock-Beep/
