While pondering the delights of washing and waxing, there's also this: I want/need to install a Parrot bluetooth handsfree phone device. Had one in my last motor and it was indispensible for when people wish to peck my head whilst I'm tooling about the highways and byways.

Autofficina quoted £325 for the standard one, or £500 for an all-singing, all dancing model which allows one to use ones ipod or iphone with all its various functions, including music. The v nice chap there let slip however that they have someone come in and do it for them, which leads me to imagine that there is a mobile installation service out there, who no doubt do it more cheaply if the garage are getting their cut.

Anybody know a reputable outfit who they have had such an installation done by and would recommend? I don't want just any Tom, Dick or Harriet dismantling my electrics...

I had a Parot MK19200 fitted to my Gransport. I think this sits in the middle of the Parrot range.

Mine was supplied and installed for £195, so it does look like Autoofficina are getting someone in to do it and taking their own cut.

The bluetooth and telephony worked a treat, but the ipod side of it had some limitations. Effectively when Iphone or Ipod music is being played the head unit controls are disabled. Volume, bass, and treble are controled from the suplemetary parrot remote control. Balance left, right fromt and rear could not be adjusted.

I also found the sound quality to be inferior to FM and CD inputs.

Thanks James: that looks like the sort of thing I need. Looking at your location, presumably your installer was not based in North London Village or its environs?

A 4200.... Whoa: thanks for the link, and I am about to replace the 'silverbox' crappy plastic cover to the front of the NIT unit, but all that wiring and what have looks a little beyond my Luddite capabilities. Will read carefully but I might feel happier chucking some dosh at someone else who purports to know what they're doing...

Got me thinking, though! Dangerous... ;)

Completely. That's my car and my install :)

Lagavullin 16 yo for preference.

One slight snag is timing, as I'm a bit busy, and as the guys will probably confirm, I've been out of the country for a while :)

I seem to be free on the 27th July, if you can wait that long.

Bring me the car and the Parrot and we'll get it done :)

I might have a go at this myself! If i goes wrong i may bother you....

Can you let me know where you bought your Parrot from please (I await various pictures of Pirates now!)
