okay peeps,

Had the knock sensors replaced on the Map today, a tricky job apparently, all the bolts on the inlet manifold were pigs to get out. Anyway, on the drive home, I drove for about 20 minutes through traffic and then on the link road out of Cardiff towards J33, the engine warning light came on and I lost all power, then it disappeared, power back. Then about 30 seconds later it did it again. Puled into the maybe and let the car idle, no warning light, tried to rev it, sometimes it did, sometimes the engine warning light came on.
Shut it down to talk to the garage and could not restart it. It was turning over, coughed a couple of times then shut down. It is now suffering the embarrassment of waiting for a tow truck to get her back to the garage. Garage are scratching their heads as to the possible issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Stuart

From what we could tell on the road side, all the sensors seem to be in all the correct places but I will get the garage to check. thanks C

Did you do a throttle reset?
Turn key to Maf for 2 min then off. Do not touch any pedals.
Accelerator to the floor as you turn key to Maf again for 15 secs.

I think you need to disconnect and reconnect battery to reboot the ECU.

6 replies and not one of them correct :D

Get Unidiag on it and read the codes or get it to a dealer with an SD2/3 reader. It's the only way to really start diagnosing an issue like this,

It could be a crank sensor, knock sensor, cam sensor, pedal pot, throttle body, brake pedal switch or many multitude of issues.

Exactly! Narrow down the stabbing in the dark...

Just to add though, as yours is an AC it will have the OBD port, so you can use a cheap code reader for a start, but clearly SD2/3 is going to be better....

Any news?
Does it need an ECU reset (disconnect battery - short leads on car - NOT battery) after sensor change?

Mine is an AC - where do i get a "cheap code reader" - will any OBD tool do the trick?

thanks Phil - ordered, will have it by the weekend. Suspect I am in for contactless TB. Mine is still on the original unit. Think it has reacted badly to the 27 month layup :(

See if the throttle plate is binding.
With the car off, open it with your fingers a few times.
Should open and close by itself smoothly.

Make sure ignition is off otherwise the electromagnet is engaged and forcing the throttle closed

lol,
Thanks for all the replies, after some investigative work by the garage and a little bit of luck, turns out there was a short in the wiring of the Crankcase sensor. So, all sorted now. Today, a quick trip to Arrow Maserati to remove the error code, however even though the warnings that were still on the ECu, and a lot have been cleared, the error light still remains and they do not know what it is. Every time I apply the brake pedal, the lamp warning light comes on, also when I put the lights on, although all lights work and I have changed the brake pedal sensor. So, I will be checking all the light connections, hopefully that will show something and will get rid of the error warning.

However it was nice to take a look at the new Levante, lovely machine, along with the Gransport and the Ghibli and the Quatroporte....lol.
