Ok, I love the Alfa GT but she is coming to the end of the man math road I fear so I am looking for a "reliable" daily (circa 15k per year) that can also tow a trailer with marci on it.
I insure marci for 5k per year miles. I worked out last year I drove marci just over 2k getting to and from various shows and there were weekends I did not drive her for fun because it might take me over my insurance limit so thinking trailer her to shows will allow me more opportunity to play with her.
For a 7k budget I can get http://www.pistonheads.com/classifi...-10/bmw-5-series-e60-e61-525d-se-2008/6830905 which would do the job but is there something else I've not thought of? Not bothered by prestige, age or how viewed by others but needs to be reliable, priced to suit (less than 7k) and able to tow an old fat green Italian ;)

Increase the mileage , it doesn't make much difference especially if the options are drive a maserati or tow a trailer

E60 towing weight is about 2000kgs, Marci plus a trailer must be over that or very close at best.

Hmmmm, good point Andy and never checked that. Ok, alternatives? And as said, mileage not as important as reliability and able to pull old Italian girl ;)

I used to love to pull the Italian girls at the monthly Italian dances in Birmingham in the 70's ;)

I can thoroughly recommend an XC90 4.4 V8. Does anything, doesn't break, doesn't moan, just gets on with it. Chr1st I thought I was talking about the missus for a second then!

I bought mine for 5k on a 56 plate one owner from new with full main dealer history. A ton or two of car for the money.

Depending which insurance company you use or are getting a quote from its between £5 and just over £16 per additional 1000 miles when i ran my quotes through the other week.

To tow a decent trailer with a relatively heavy sports car on board easily will need a decent large mud plugger. XC90 & Touareg are more car like than the more heavyweight Disco & ML type. All can be had for your budget dependent on age and mileage

I would agree with XC90, I wouldn't dimiss an ML either, we had ours for 2 1/2, 3 years and was excellent.

I've got a 2007 320d bought on 90k now on 213k and going great, 25k annual mileage on policy. Despite what folk say about modern German cars I can't fault it. As long as they are getting used and diesels 100% do like lots of long journeys then I can vouch for a bimmer.

Half the fun of the Shows for me is getting there, time you spend 2-3k for a good braked trailer you would be better increasing your mileage.

I think I am £160 for 10k fully comp.

I agree, the best bit of shows is the convoy there and making a grand entrance! Add 2k to your mileage and use Marci, she will thank you for it!
