Constant high pitched noise from dashboard somewhere 4200

This is a weird one ...

Out of the blue, I have an irritating high pitched noise coming from somewhere in the dashboard area. As I am deaf in one ear and have no directional hearing I can't identify exactly where it's coming from.

When I turn the ignition key to start up, the noise begins. When key turned fully to start engine it stops, but immediately returns when the ignition key returns to its power position.

WTF?

Any ideas?

Ground failure on the audio system perhaps. How loud is it? (I realise that may be a dumb question)

Loud enough .... its VERY obvious...

I have a Parrot Asteroid Tablet installed but someone nicked the tablet ... could be something to do with that perhaps?

Installed how? Just an audio connection which is now hanging around loose? Or some kind of professional install?

The other thing you could try is shutting down the aircon totally (manual fan to zero, compressor off) to see if it's anything in there.

You might need someone to actually see if it's coming from the speakers.

It's definitely not the speakers ... I've had someone with better hearing check it for me.

Is there an E message in the DIS where the temp display normally is? I have heard them buzz on error.

Took it into my local garage to see if they had an idea - they believe as the noise disappears when the ignition key is fully turned that it is a short in the immobiliser setting off the buzzer. They're going to look for the buzzer and disable it. Any one know where it might be located?

Does it do it all the time or in a particular gear? My manual whines noticeably in 5th gear from the dash... assume it's not the gearbox causing it as its at the rear so maybe my clutch?

Could it be related to the warning sound that warns the driver as soon as the outside temperature drops below a certain level (I believe 3 celsius)?

I also have that usually comes from the front passenger seat. She makes the same sound at home too!

Yep mine is called the Nagger alarm, constantly droning on and cannot be easily silenced.

Just ask her how much she spent at the hairdressers.
They go quite then and you never get the answer.

All sorted - apparently was coming from the aftermarket hands free phone unit - unplugged - sorted!

That's good news glad it was something simple

Do you mind if I hijack your thread now?

I have done a little digging and I found this thread which suggests my clutch thrust bearing is knackered. I get a constant faint whine over 50mph but in 5th gear especially (manual car) it's quite loud. Thread I mentioned http://www.sportsmaserati.co.uk/sho...itched-whine-at-motorway-speed-on-4200-Manual

So how bad is this if not looked at? Do I need to factor in a clutch change with my major service in a few weeks??
