If you don't have an issue with the £4k cost, then why would you not have it done?

Are you talking about collapsed tangs?

Yes; there was a batch of clutches that are known to fail early because of this issue, it throws up many different errors. The outcome is however the same. This is why people are asking the questions as they are, also urging caution when replacing. It is still possible there are some of this batch still unused and in the wild. They are/were all made by valeo so it is down to checking source/supplier.

Because if it's less than half worn, there's a possibility that there's still ~15,000 miles life left, perhaps? Considering I do around 5k miles a year it might potentially be ok for a few years yet.

Regardless, I'm going to wait to hear back from the garage and go with their recommendation. I think I'll probably end up pulling the trigger, just wanted to gauge opinions.

It's that topic again...

When should a clutch be changed? i.e. what reading is cause for concern?

Mine's at ~40% and the garage is saying I should change it, as the bearing and position sensor are both knackered (car won't go into gear or start).

I'm not against changing it but £4k is not a trifling amount.

I know the readings aren't even that accurate but it was 5.9% at 39k and 40.2% at 61k. It's now at 65k and the recommendation is to change.

Thoughts?
Just change the F1 sensor through the hole in the bell housing and use it until the clutch is completely gone.
Which bearing does the garage state failed? Hard to tell unless it’s running or stripped down or was it making noise a while?
