Clutch problems?

We were having a blast on the Llanberis pass in North Wales when I noticed a raise in revs for no more speed. On pulling away in first I noticed the revs rose as though you are slipping the clutch then you got traction. I couldn't engage reverse at the time so, I limped it back 145 miles to home.
I am assuming it's the clutch that's kn*****ed. Any ideas on a whats the price I can expect to pay.
Cheers

Yep, all of the symptoms of a failed clutch. Most likely the fingers in the pressure plate will have failed. Cost-wise expect a figure of around £2k if you need to replace everything. There's a lot of labour involved so don't skimp on anything while it's being done. Replace the flywheel, release bearing, spigot bush, clutch sensor etc if there's any concern they might need replacing. Not sure who looks after your car, but I can highly recommend Marios at Autoshield who has done many of these. I sent my car to him from London last year to have my clutch replaced.

Yes, it wasn't driveable. I used a guy recommended by Marios who is used to dealing with high end cars.

I currently use Graypaul at NOTTINGHAM they offer to match any quotes and they pick your car up in a covered transporter. As you say while the engines out have everything associated with the clutch replaced. It's done 42000 miles on current one, so not bad.

Price sounds fine, but I don't think it includes the release bearing (£250ish from memory) or the flywheel (another £300ish). You may also want to replace the clutch sensor etc. while everything is out. Whatever you do, don't skimp on the release bearing or flywheel, especially if they're the originals. If you've had a slipping clutch I am quite sure you will need a new flywheel as there will be heat marks all over it. Have a read of my experience last year with pics attached:

Hill engineering's release bearing is the one to go for over the OEM part if you do replace it.

Thanks guys for all the good advice, just waiting for them to call me on what they find. As you all say best to get all of the associated parts changed at the same time, avoids storing up trouble for the future.
Thanks

Hi Woody, Here's a link to the part. I've fitted one previously to my 4200 and I know others on the forum have used them as well. The build quality is very good and the seals come included and fitted.

I think they offer us a 10 percent discount as well. :D
