Brexit Poll

FTSE 100 has gone from -3.66 to -2.25 in the last 20 minutes

The markets corrected their original "remain" positions and are now settling into the new mindset. Any real damage will be further down the road.

I'll shut up about it too. Need a car fix to clear the mind, I think.

I find it quite amazing how many people are so vehemently opposed to leaving the EU due to their own self interests yet are quick to tell those who want red out to "think of others"! It's all hypocritical nonsense! As much as I wanted to be rid of the EU, if the vote had been to remain then I'd take it on the chin.

I've got part ownership in a flooring contractors that just took on a big contract at the EU parliament in Brussels yet I still voted Leave because this thing is bigger than my own interests.

Possibly, maybe not, we just don't know. Our economy might even pick up, we just don't know.

This Brexit thing is doing my t!ts in now. Nobody knows what will happen until it happens so can we, please, stop banging on about it. Time will tell if we've made a mistake or played a master stroke but, until we find out, can we talk about cars or getting p!ssed as we normally do. Thanks.

One thread you don't have to read - it's hardly banging on about it to upset you so much Ben. It's interesting to see people airing their views, even if you don't want that to happen.

Proper discussion by proper people. But I really have to get some work done now so I'm out, so to speak.

Feel free to speculate and gossip all you want because that's what you obviously want to do. Go ahead and knock yourself out, I'll take your sketchy advice and not read it.

Ben, there's nothing normal about the way we get p!ssed or talk about cars. It's abnormal in the extreme! Just look at Damo.

"I'm 34 and I own a Maserati and a Lotus, so you can tell I'm not doing too badly. I have a fairly large mortgage but it's only just over 4x my annual income (and my wife works too).
20 years ago I had 2 years of High School left - the 2nd worse ranking High School in my region / county. I was staying at home in my parents first and only house - an ex-council house bought by them in 1990. Prior to that, I lived in a council flat 10 minutes walk away in one of the poorest and roughest areas in my city.

So, I feel pretty well placed to talk about poverty."

Similar to me, but I am significantly older. And in no way am I having a go at people who have climbed and achieved, but it sounds like you have taken this a little personally. But I am sure there are folks older than me that has seen similar things. Housing, there are poor quality new builds, low paid are priced out, poor job prospects. Just read that the high-end estate agents in London are expecting a rise in prices for premium properties because foreign nationals can get more bang for their bucks.

Not really taken it personally, I often think about climbing and achieving, and with that, what I've left behind. What I see, where I came from nowadays doesn't look so bad.
I don't see really run down areas, I see places that have been invested in. I see people who are clearly better off (in terms of what they have) than when I was there, and I see consumerist attitudes well and truly adopted, but perhaps that's here in Dundee. Interestingly, in the follow up to the Scottish Independence Referendum, the same analysis as has been applied to this poll was carried out. It showed (as this one did too) that there was a definite skew towards those voting yes in deprived areas. Dundee was dubbed 'Yes city' and listed in the 3 worst deprived areas. Perhaps Scotland really is just that much better than England from a quality of life / poverty perspective I don't know.

Interesting chat everyone :)

Incidentally, were Aston supposed to be moving to the circuit of Wales were TVR are supposed to be setting up?

The sectors hit biggest seems to be the construction industry (which I am in) everything is down 20% at close.

Who knows what it will bring, perhaps a correction to the housing values which will be a positive for people wanting to get on the ladder.

However a lot of offices I know have had too many projects on hold due to the uncertainty of Brexit and are now making redundancies.

Of course all of this is short term. I think it is impossible to predict what the effect will be long term.
