No chance, more tax on fuel? Ridiculous idea. Insurance/tax/MOT dodgers would just fiddle the electric meter and use EVs.

More Police means more personnel. More funding, means raising the council tax which you wouldn't want to pay. The police force have to compete with other industries for workers, and thanks to a few rogue cops it's getting harder to recruit. Therefore they have work smarter with resources to hand.
Im not saying being a Policeman isnt a difficult job, what im saying is its not fit for purpose and cost effective in this day and age. If the force got paid by results then going by the stats they would receive very little.

Compared to 50 years ago when the population was around 50 million and I was your typical oik teenager it appeared ( and im doing my best not to wear rose tinted glasses here ) there seemed to be more bobbies on the street regularly patrolling in Panda cars , more bobbies patrolling the town centres on foot , no Helicopters , no major forensic labs, no CCTV , No Apnr camera's, No Body cams, no pepper spray No tasers ......... I think our local bobby Tony Gilkes who rode a Velocette water cooled was smitten when he actually had it fitted with a telephone of sorts. Crimes seemed to get solved in those days , people had visits from the police when stuff was stolen from sheds and back gardens or shops that were broken into or banks were robbed . All by traditional policing and local knowledge of the beat cop who would know the oiks . The average Joe in the street felt a lot safer generally and most had an admiration for the force.

I think most would agree that now with all the resources they have ( and yes we know the population has increased by 15 million ) the budget for the police force is mega and completely out of proportion for the amount of crimes solved , most people feel unsafe around most town centres at night or in the early hours or when around teenager youths that congregate in parks and car parks etc.

Its not a police force now as such now as we once knew it and relied upon , police are not staying in the force as a career anywhere near the length time they used to , one of my life long friend a sergeant in traffic in west sussex constabulary did his 25 or 30 years and was out by 2015 saying he is actually ashamed a little at how the force has developed and says its not fit for purpose.

So with all these new mega police stations , Hi tech state of the art comms and computer systems/data bases ,armed police training academy's Maintenance depots for the vast number of high end cars they swan around in , where is the improvement for joe public in response times , where is the upside for joe publics taxes , where is the upside for crimes to be resolved .....from my perspective it isnt justified , seems the police are there now to protect the powers that be and the corporations ( the few) not the masses.

So yes im a great advocate for pay as you go on fuel , pile on the tax to cover insurance and road tax problem solved , and same for policing ..........let them earn next years budget by solving crimes , not using joe public as a cash cow .....................And Im not Anti police ............they have just been lead down the corporate protection path .

Yep, that too, and when plastic bobbies with little authority and local 'community support volunteers' are at the core of policing I can't see it improving any time soon. Many years ago a senior policeman told me that our little town was essentially crime free with just the odd burglary and little to spike their interest; that's of little consequence to shopkeepers whose windows were being smashed every week and with gangs of kids causing mayhem in the shopping precinct. One of my family was simply given a crime number when their property was burgled - so it wasn't that interesting for the police anyway.

As for car tax; yes, abolish direct payment and collect it via the pumps. It's a perfectly logical move, and pump payment will counter drive-offs. The only problem is that you can only drive one car at a time, so the treasury will take fright.

It's time for the masses to rise up and copy our Gallic friends; let's clog up Westminster with Maseratis - that'll learn 'em.

I had this last year with LV= and DirectLine. They could say, as soon as you select the car, that they aren't going to insure you.

On the tracking front my understanding now is that when stealing high-stuff that is likely to have trackers they come equipped with a jammer. So it doesn't really matter what you are trying to track it with. If they want to block it they can.

I've got an aftermarket tracker/immobiliser fitted that should stop it being as easy to steal when out and about. However if someone really wants to take it from home the keys are fairly accessible once they are in the house and I didn't bother with a ghost immobiliser. At the end of the day its only a car.

My insurance is due in around 40 days so I'll probably start looking next week. I did a provisional check on the Fezza last week and it came out roughly what I'm paying now so I'm not too worried at the moment. That might be different next week lol

Just had quotes for classics here. After an initial shock on comparing last years prices which showed a 50% increase, Mrs Z checked to find a €12.00 increase over 3 cars (I should read the paperwork properly) so might as well leave where it is.

According to Martin Lewis and his Money Saving website, 21 days is the sweet spot of renewal. It dips from 30 days to 21 then slowly rises again

Interestingly, Lloyds wouldn't quote me for a Maserati but going via Compare the chipmunk they would and it pops out to their website. I'm confused.com

Strangely one of the comparison sites claimed to have no insurers who would take the GT, for any amount of money... I forget which, possibly confused (me and the site), I didn’t bother trying again to see if it was just a glitch :rolleyes:

When I bought the California there was an issue with the tracker. Aviva wouldn't insure me without the tracker so I had to scramble around for insurance the day before I picked it up. I went with the RAC. Their underwriter ... Aviva!

My Admiral up 50%, multi car and house. Oddly the crappy BMW X1 is now only £25 cheaper than the GT, and the Spider still cheap as chips.
BMW playing it on with parts pricing?

When I bought the California there was an issue with the tracker. Aviva wouldn't insure me without the tracker so I had to scramble around for insurance the day before I picked it up. I went with the RAC. Their underwriter ... Aviva!
I've found in the past that the annual subscription for the tracker (£200 with my pre-installed Vodafone tracker) can be higher than the cost of the premium applied for not having a tracker.

Indeed, it makes no difference at all.
I got a Scorpion Tracker fitted. All in cheaper than running the Vodafone tracker that Ferrari/Maserati fit and gives me much more information about car location etc from an app. For me having the tracker is piece of mind for when I'm away from home with the car and park it somewhere. Its not just for the insurance aspect, which you're right isn't enough to cover the cost.

Just got my Aviva renewal quote in. It's a 28% increase. Time to shop around.
Did some initial shopping around on GoCompare for individual policies and managed to get the total down from £2295 to £1320 for all three cars on the cheapest, and £1585 for Admiral Gold without any multi-car discount. Completely crazy.

I did the usual trick, logged into the usual top 6 Insurance Sites including my Admiral. Obtained quoted for the 3 cars + house, left them to stew their cookies for few days. Spoke with Admiral yesterday.

It seems that they're all increasing premiums across the board around 40-50%. It has the feelings of a cartel.

What's inflation? 3-5%. Surely if car components have increased that mush then our inflation rate is wrong.

Upped the mileage to about 20,000 across the 3 cars, got a couple of hundred knocked off but still ~£1800

I use lockton performance which is a specialist policy for maserati U.K. club members. Mine includes an agreed valuation, included cover for spouse as well as any driver over 35. I believe it also covers both drivers to drive any other car (not owned) fully comprehensive. The best part is if you breakdown they will recover your car to a garage of choice. My premium for renewal at the end of March is approx £1200 which is around the same price as last year. I’m in London area and have a Vodaphone tracker. The next best I got online was £2.4K.

I looked at the Lockton policy but the kicker was the 5000 miles limit. I like to drive my cars rather than just look at them ;)

So in the end have gone with Footman James. Almost £1k less than my original quote, lots of options, including track day cover, agreed value, and unlimited miles.
