Anybody had an email about a Chris Ward watch sale? I'm in the market for a new watch, seriously looking at one.

A half price sale, get in quickly while you can - they tend to sell out very quickly

Really tempted with the C9 Big Day-Date but put off by buying an automatic as I have about 10 watches and all are battery powered as I am fussy over accuracy and hear probably wrongly that the automatic ones are not quite as accurate, is this right?

I have a couple of really nice Omegas and always end up wearing them in preference to my other ones.

How do the automatic owners find them, do you just user an automatic watch winder?

My Breitling is automatic and is not as accurate as a battery driven. It's a bit like a car - when it's been serviced (around £300) it probably loses a minute every couple of months but gets gradually more inaccurate as time goes on.

You also need to wear it regularly as it stops in about two days unless worn in which case inaccuracy isn't a major problem since you have to put it right when you wear it again!

Mechanical watches aren't as accurate as a decent quartz.

Which is not to say they aren't lovely

Thanks David, do you not use an automatic winder?

I rely on accuracy and time keeping all the time switching between UK, US time and hate it when I have just missed a cut-off by even a minute as it usually means waiting 12-18 hours before I can get in touch again.

If I am working from home then I don't wear a watch and if I go out just grab one to suit what I am wearing so maybe having to go through the rigmarole of taking it out of the automatic winder when I am in a hurry probably means an automatic watch might not be for me.

I just wind my automatics when I wear them. I tend to try and cycle around my watches so they run down over the couple of weeks they aren't worn, and most have a big enough power reserve to cope when I'm WFH or just not going out at the weekends.

I love an automatic and with so many clocks around - computer screens, phones, car GPS etc, I don't mind the watch being the odd minute or so out.
I have 2 CW watches, both autos, and one of them has a power reserve of up to 30 days & a COSC approved movement - incredible engineering and very accurate too

Thanks Lads, I think I'm going to have to stay with quartz as I am pedantic, sometimes to the extreme and would hate to have a watch out even by a minute,

I'm looking around my office at the moment and have 5 visible sources of time keeping and if one was out then it would do my head in.

If the last sale is anything to go by, these will all be gone in 24 hours.......so be quick if you fancy!

For me, a watch has to be mechanical. I can't stand quartz watches. Sure, they keep time better but for me, you can't beat the engineering genius that goes into a good quality mechanical (automatic) watch. Unfortunately, they cost a lot more to buy and maintain and here in lies their ability to retain, and possibly increase, their value.

Quartz every time for me as I don't wear them enough to be arsed with winding a manual or automatic. Got TAG and C Ward all in Quartz.
