Chipped front windscreen on QP

Perhaps a silly question - but I assume that this can be repaired rather than replaced? It is driver side but quite high, so I think normally would be capable of repair. Any guidance? I could just leave it - and ignore it instead?

You're insurance will resolve this for just a small fee of £50 or £75. They'll send someone to assess it and either repair or replace the screen. It does not affect your no claims bonus.

I took mine into Meridien to handle the replacement and just paid the excess. The story is that as the windscreen is heat fitted and difficult to remove without damaging expensive trim and paintwork my insurers agreed it should be done by the main dealer rather than pay to have the car rectified after Autoglass or similar have struggled. Autoglass were happy to support that point of view as they would have been liable..........got a little hammer?

If you leave it, it will only get worse I expect.

I had to have my screen replaced and when I spoke to my MD, they told me that they sub the work out to a local screen fitter as they just don't do that many & don't have the necessary experience to carry out a replacement

For the sake of clarity I don't want my insurance involved in any way. A tree squashed my new Jaguar; and its replacement was run off the road into the crash barrier on the M1 motorway, by a foreign lorry driver. Both incidents took place a few years ago now, but I want my insurance record kept clean - spotlessly clean.

I am happy to pay for the chip repair - which of course doesn't involve the removal of the windscreen.

Windscreen repair or replacement will NOT affect your bonus or claims record. Only an issue if surrounding bodywork damaged at same time.
As Outrun says excess usually about £75 for replacement and chip repair free or perhaps £10.
Autoglass etc will tell you cost if paying yourself. Might find it isn't much as they charge like the light brigade with Insurance jobs!

I too have a chip on my screen, lower down than yours.
I took it to Autoglass they looked at it and said it has already been repaired and there was nothing more to be done
The chip does not constitute an MOT fail because it is low down and not in drivers line of sight - yours might do.
It is not a great repair whoever did it (before my ownership) and if it was Autoglass then I would have not been happy at the time
So I just live with it, - one day maybe

Hmm about 5-6 years ago I didn't get a renewal letter from the insurance co I'd been with for 5 years , when I rang them up they said it hadn't been sent out because I'd had too many claims

Er I haven't had any claims , yes you have 2 windscreens in the last 3 years and a non fault claim this year

None of those should have affected my insurability but computer said no , it was sorted out on the phone when I explained but it did highlight that they do keep a record of all your claims and use it to base your premium on even if they say they don't

I use an independent for screens, Honda Civic was £120 , iveco daily £130 , he's not vat registered and fits at your home so for the sake of £50 I'd sooner not get the insurance involved

But it's a whole different ball game for a Maserati screen surely? They are hellishly expensive to buy in the first place - top tint, heated, rain & light sensors etc - plus a bit of a pig to fit?

The sensors aren't in the screen, I'm sure. Top tint is no huge deal either. Heated is pretty common place as well.

May well be a pig to fit though :)

I'd love to see somebody buy a new OEM-quality Maserati screen for £120-£150! I had a new screen fitted to my GS last year - £1700 plus fitting, came direct from Maserati in Italy. AFAIK there are no pattern screens made by anyone.

Yes. The lack of pattern parts is a different issue. Maserati can gouge on the price :)

My screen for the GTS is down as a non OEM in Autoglass' eyes and was made by Pilkington, as are the OEM screens. But mine does not have the trident logo in the bottom right hand corner, just the Pilkington logo.
So whilst you can say mine is a 'pattern part' as it was not OEM, it was made in the same factory and no doubt on the same line as those supplied to Maserati.
I enquired about OEM and it was £2,000 plus the excess (to go towards the fitting costs) - After much deliberating, I went for the non OEM

Right hen
With Aviva as of 1st March

Approved repairer Screen Replacement Unlimited

Non Approved Repairer £185 per claim

Screen replacemnt xs £75

So does that mean they will only go to £185 of which I have to pay £75?
Confused
I may need to call them
