Central Locking

I have not used my car since Friday - but when Ive gone to use it today there is an issue with the central locking. When I lock the car it simply re opens itself! I thought I had locked it but when I was walking away the alarm went off.

Has it simply got itself out of synch and if so - how do I sort this out.

Help!!!

Try doing it a few more times..ensure boot is properly closed.......it may simply re-set itself....or re-set switch in boot to off...wait 10 mins.....turn on...try again...they are a bit unpredicatable ...as we all know.

Either as mentioned a battery reset , sometimes my key gets out of sync , happened at Enzo's at the weekend, then its a case of clicking the button in view of the receiver up to 16 times and you should hear itl re-synchronize itself

My key gets out of sync too - I usually just lock the car with the key in the door when it happens, as am often in a rush (I'm a disorganised shambles). When I come back to the car it always works straight away first time for some reason, without having to do the 16x reset...

Thankis for the replies guys.

I powered it down but the issue continued.

I have tried pressing the locking button lots and lots of times - the issue persists.

When I lock the door manually - the car simply unlocks itself again!

I will try powering down for a longer period of time to see if this helps.

Any more suggestions or reasons for this happening?

Cheers

Have you tried removing the battery from the key and manually locking the car?( if this works then key circuitry is at fault)
Is the car still in alarmed state when the doors unlock? Yes then its not key related specifically as the car has detected that the key has been pressed and primed the system)
If it still unlocks after the key is "neutralised" then it is a central locking relay fault that is emulating detecting a signal that unlocks the car.(if still in alarmed state then it is just the locking mechanism relay)
Do you suffer from battery drain?
Not an expert but i would think that this is a central locking relay issue and the lock function is just not locking down.

When I press the button - the car alarm appears to prime itelf (red light flashes) - the car locks but then instantly unlocks itself (leaving the alarm light flashing).

When I drove it yesterday I parked up, pressed the button (it locked then unlocked itself) and walked to the cash point. When I was standing there the alarm went off.

I had a drainage problem a few months back but this was all sorted by a good auto electrician.

I will try leaving the battery off this aftenoon and see what difference it makes.

If this fails - I suppose its back to the autoelectrician?

I do stress to sit in the car and click the button 16 times and no less , it does sound as if it is out of sync

Hi Mark,

I had a similar problem the other day - but in reverse - every time I unlocked the car it would immediately lock itself.
I timed a grab for the handle to coincide with pressing the button to unlock and got the door open.
The door then clicked and whurred trying to lock itself for about 10 seconds.

Went to reverse the car out of garage and, as I started to move, the alarm went off.

turn off engine press button and alarm stops.

Tried locking and unlocking the car again with the same result.
Walked round car, unlock, open, close and lock each door manually (inc the boot) a couple of times.
Try remote again - no problem.

Not had a problem since.

Two thoughts cross my mind
1 is that I was using my other half's key which had not been used for some weeks, but I've never had a problem before.
2 the low battery light came on when I turned the ignition on (I forgot to plug the battery conditioner back in the last time I used it :-( )
I know low battery seems to mess up the alarm.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply.

I powered it down all afternoon - powered back up and same problem - locking itself.

I then followed Loz's advice and sat in car pressing button. It would lock then unlock item but still have alarm set. Next press would click alarm off. And so the pattern continued.

It would allow this to happen about 16 times - the button then stopped working.

So I then manually locked the door. Same thing would happen - lock then unlock.

Eventully this stopped - it would actually lock (no alarm). If you try to open the door using the handle the window comes down about an inch.

So - what on earth do I do???

I'll try the advice now of opening/closing all doors one at a time then see what happens.

But Ive no idea why it's got itself in such a muddle - I don't have a low battery? Although my oil light did come on last night!

Any more help very gratefully received!!!

Hi Hope you get sorted, I had a similar problem few years ago with an Alfa turned out to be a faulty micro switch in the door lock mechanism.

Cheers guys - been out in it all day - loving those country roads and the public adoring the car!!

Feel a taf stupid though as when I get out and lock the car manually - it opens again! Manually closing it about 8 times does the trick. Unlook like I'm trying to nick it!!!

P - did you your rusty nut back mate? Happy?

I dont think it's condensation given the car has been baking!

Unless there are any more ideas (Loz) then it's a trip to the autoelectrician for me!!
