Central Locking/Alarm woes!

G'day everyone, the car is over in Melbourne having a new clutch fitted and a few other glitches sorted out, one of which is an issue I've had with my central locking/alarm for some time.

One day the key simply stopped unlocking/locking the car and activating the alarm remotely. I could unlock manually with the key of course but it was a bit of a PITA driving around with the alarm sounding. I tried the spare key and it wouldn't work either. I put new batteries in both keys and still no joy so I took the relevant fuse out and have been driving it thus for some time.

Anyway, I've taken the car to an indie Maserati specialist in Melbourne who has tried to sort it out. He too had trouble so he has been onto the main Maserati dealer as well as a specialist lock-smith without a satisfactory result. Apparently the key fobs are transmitting a signal but they are out of sync with the alarm unit in the car and cannot be reprogrammed, even with the dealer's SD3 analyser.

The dealer has suggested replacing the activators in the keys AND the alarm box (sorry, I can't remember what he actually called it but I'm sure you know what I mean) which is apparently under the seat??? Needless to say, being the festive season, to have this done will provide the owners of that particular business with a lovely Christmas bonus at my expense!!!

However, someone in Melbourne has also suggested that there is a bloke in the UK to whom you can send the key innards and the "black-box" and he will re-programme/re-sync them and get the whole system working again. If this is indeed the case, I reckon that one of you fine gentlemen might know who this could be.

Any ideas?

Many thanks in advance and a merry and safe Christmas to all of you!

Cheers,

Kim

Someone will be along with the name of that company but there are two things that might help:

1) Double click the remote. If it loses the key sequence this will reset it

The other needs a working key. Have you got one?

Thanks Catman. No I don't alas and that does seem to be a recurring theme. Both keys stopped working, or should I say that the entire system stopped working, at the same and neither of the keys I have would work.

It has been said that if I had a working key then I could programme the other but I do not have a working key at all.

Cheers,

Kim

That would be the way. Looks like you are indeed SOL

Unless by some miracle the double press works :(

I had the same issue and also used Abacus. The only issue was that once it arrived in the UK Abacus were asked to pay an import tax on it which they declined (fair enough) and it was sent back to me. I then had a mate who was travelling to the UK take it along and was going to just post it to avoid this issue, but Abacus happened to be close to where he was staying so he physically dropped it in there for me.
To save the same hassle I had, perhaps one of the SM members will do you a favour of having it sent to them and then re sending it to Abacus.
Kim, who did you end up taking the car to for the work?

Hi George, thanks for the tip. I was going to give Abacus a call and talk to them so I'll ask about the import tax. It seems an odd issue to have though don't you reckon?

With regards to the car, I took it to Paul Placzek at Sports Car & Classic Services http://www.sportscarservices.com.au.He was excellent to deal with, very knowledgeable and I'd happily take the car back to him.

Cheers,

Kim.

Thanks Dave.

Do I have to get the back seat out to get at it? Are there clips and the whole thing just lifts out perhaps?

Cheers,

Kim.

I'll vouch for that there first class....buy the way the alarm ECU in behind the passenger rear side trim panel.

Yes the back seat needs to come out Kim. I'm not sure what's involved because it wasn't me that removed it but I did see my back seat being removed as I sat sipping an espresso at Zagames and watched the goings on through their glass windows.

Hi Kim, I've had the back seat out many times and the side panels once to recolour.
The rear seat base is held in by 2 spring loaded clips along the front edge.
It requires super human strength to lift each one up, so I hope you have a good back.
Then fold down the arm rest and remove the rear inside panel from the top.
It has 2 plastic clips holding it.
Then you will see the 4 x 17mm bolts to remove that hold the rear backrest in place.
For the side panels you need to pop the metal trim off. It has studs behind it that press into the side panel.
This exposes screws to remove.
If I recall correctly the side panel is in 2 parts upper and lower. The rest of the removal is Christmas tree clips.
