Center console wiring problem?

On occasion, my 4200 center console fails to "connect" to the car. It's the lower console with the gear "lever". On start up, sometimes it doesn't light up, the fan doesn't work and neither do any of the controls or buttons on the console. Before I go ripping it out to investigate, I thought I would ask if this is a known problem, or have I just got a dodgy earth wire or the like?

If it was heater core, that would be the only thing not working, but it's not. I lose the backlight to the switches, and if I stop and restart it all comes back with the heater working just fine

Dare I suggest heater core?

Not really. It leaks all over the electronics.....

Doesn't take long to check, take the passenger mat out undo the three screws holding the panel to the transmission tunnel, remove, undo kick plate and inspect. The hoses connecting to the core are pretty much above the wiring loom on the top right of the footwell behind the dash. Look out for coolant tastes bitter sweet and makes surfaces sticky

Ah, that might be a clue, the car steams up badly even when static. Best I get the tools out and check that heater core. Good call, thanks
