Cars in the financial doldrums that we should embrace now

I think that's due to psychological conditioning. Prices have softened a bit after some stupid rises but these are no longer, and haven't been for some time, in the financial doldrums.

There may be certain varieties of Range Rover which are.
I was watching an auction on line and all LR series III or Defenders were above £20k and some provisional. If that's the 'soft' price then some people lost a few Bob.

In a time when every Subaru in the range was 4WD and every SAAB had a turbo (whether the low or high pressure variant), the SAAB was notorious for its torque steer but at least if fettled by Abbott this was supposedly tamed.

Does anyone have any personal knowledge or insight of the 9-3 or 9-5?

I have a 9-5 aero estate as a daily driver. Best I've ever had. 260 hp out of the box. Enough room to put a wardrobe in the back. Good fuel consumption and reliable and cheap to run. I've done 160,000 miles and replaced the abs rings and the pas pipe and a couple of light bulbs. It's still on the original exhaust. Manual is the one to go for.
Have a 9000 aero too. Mildly sorted but only about 300 hp. Torque steer is not bad but amusing. Comfy and embarrasses many a modern car ( in a straight line ). Have an original 99 turbo ( the first mass produced turbo car ). Old school turbo. The torque steer is hilarious but once you master the driving style, it is still a quick motor and becoming very rare.

Interesting thread how did I miss this one, OK the ones I have on my radar

Cayman 3.4S or even cheaper the Boxster 3.2S
Honda S2000 or Integra Coupe
Renault Alpine GTA Turbo
BMW E39 540 Sport if you can find one, the M5 version is nice but most have stellar mileages
MG BGT V8, still find reasonable ones but a lot have moved already.

On top of that as above a 95 Aero (Hot) Estate had one before and loved its performance and space would have another as a daily driver tomorrow if I could find one a manual version, would even accept the VRT bill here

I would suggest a citroen cx GTI Turbo 2. Love them and nearly bought one but ended up with a more sensible 3200. The other car I have unseemly thoughts about is another Citroen. This time a C6.

The C6 keeps pulling me in too but the vast majority are driven by Satans fuel

What about <£1000
My Alfa is worth pennies at the moment and is bloody fantastic to drive, the v6 sings!
I get out of new company/hire cars and back in this and always think, I wish I could drive the Alfa everywhere. Will it be worth decent money one day? Who knows! 74763

Excellent, these will definitely go up. Lots are lost to corrosion so are becoming more and more rare. So my advice would be to get it protected and gradually buy up stocks of bits, trim, bumpers, lights etc to reduce the chances of falling foul of NLA parts in the future. You can’t beat a busso with a manual gearbox in any of its forms. Although I may be biased..

^^^. Indeed . My first alfa had the busso V6, manual too. Rear silencer fell off during holiday in southern France. Would you believe while we were visit a massive natural cave - with a road through it. Maz d'Azil cavern.
My family were soooooo embarrassed when I drove through, the second time.
