Popped in to the new Maserati Dealer today in Cardiff just to have a look and enquire about servicing costs. The servicing department is not open until I believe he said March sometime, a brief chat was had and they seem to be doing well already, cars are being sold very quickly, an 08 GT was only on their forecourt for a week. They haven't had a big opening yet, planning to have one when the new Ghibli is unveiled. The big shock was their hourly rate, £120 p/h.??? wtf. Is that normal...I never paid that much at Swindon, even though the Cardiff dealership is closer, it might be cheaper to go to Swindon....lol.

Anyway, just thought I would spread the news as they don't really seem to have promoted themselves too well for whatever reason. he even thought my 3200 GT was a 4200...??????

Cheers

Stuart, didn't realise they where open yet...Must pop down.......

When Dick Lovett Maserati was in Cardiff they also charges £120 an hour and that was a number of years ago.....You pay for that expensive coffee and bone china they give you while you're waiting :) ..... Stupid money to pay for labour but new Maseratis are expensive and I suppose they think if you can afford to buy one you can afford £120 an hour......

Typical.....you can get them to price match....even in Belfast C Hursts who refused to price match, reduced their hourly rate........

To be fair if you are only vaguely into cars, the front and profile of the 3200/4200 are the same and on a red 3200 the boomerangs are hard to see.

To be honest if your in the south west I have now found Carrs down in Exeter to be exceptional if you want to keep the main dealer paper trail going and really nice people. Phil.

£120 per hour sounds a lot but it's not that much different to the likes of BMW/Audi.In real terms you pay much more than that per hour to service a Maserati.Anyone know how long it takes to do a two year service on GranTurismo?

Dick Lovett Swidon if it was me.....Have respect for those guys.

I too have respect for DL and certainly good to us forum owners. For me though a little too corporate and for me as the poor boy on tour prefer a more laid back approach and Carrs fit the bill for me and you still get a great Italian coffee in nice China. Just my opinion though.

I also popped in to the new Cardiff dealer (arrow) yesterday afternoon.

I think he said that the service dept opens on 17th Feb. I asked if they'd have any experienced Maserati service technicians there and he said they were being trained in Modena now. Doesn't inspire confidence unless you have a current model really...

I was also surprised at how small the showroom is - tiny!

Agree with the comment made about the fact that they don't seem to be promoting themselves much in the local area (yet).

I see absolutely no reason to go to a main dealer for servicing when there are so many good specialists who live, sleep and breath these cars on a daily basis and literally know way more about these cars than any dealer who simply plugs in a diagnostic tool and let's the machine tell them what is wrong.

It all depends on age. Certainly no need for a 3200/4200 but for the newer cars, some specialists are not too familiar, do not get the software updates and don't give the reassurance that buyers of £50k+ cars want.

As BB has said no need for a 3200/4200 or even GS these days but a GT is a must for resale....Early ones are now 7 years old but the don't look it and still are percieved as a new car so I think I would still take an early GT for now...PLus the specialist hasn't really got their hands on the GT yet so I would say the dealer knows the cars better....

I have no problem with specialists - actually I think most probably do a better/more thorough job than most main dealers would be likely to. But I want to get the stamp in the book as many other people seem to think that main dealer servicing is necessary and I don't want it to be an issue when it comes to resale later.

Also, just to add, when I spoke to Dick Lovett before Xmas they were quoting similar prices to Emblem for an annual service - I imagine they're hungry for the business..

I know that the servicing side of the business was a worry to DL back last year when we visited so es they do tend to match prices....Which is good.
