CAR AUCTIONS

I've got my eyes on this:

Not quite the thread for it, but I'd also be interested to hear your thoughts of your V12S considering you're a staff member of a Maserati forum and previously owned an MC Shift. I'm also considering a Vantage but the reviews are so mixed.

Nice looking Merak on collectingcars, although I think I've seen this one on offer somewhere else quite recently(?). Maybe it didn't reach Reserve. The corrosion problems on these, along with the engine rebuild costs are enough to frighten me off bidding ...

Yes - it’s been for sale for quite a while. I think they want about £55k, and it is a stunning example, with unrepeatable low mileage. But LHD, and an early version with the Citroen SM dash. So not really the one to have here in the U.K., possibly explaining why it hasn’t sold sooner.

Gransport on carandclassic. Low mileage but in need of a bit of TLC ...

I like the colourway of this “launch spec” car. But the mouldy looking interior, engine warning light, sticky plastics and the fact it needs paintwork all put me off. Let’s be honest, it certainly doesn’t present as a much loved example.
Not sure about the mileage either, given the wear on the steering wheel and drivers bolster - but I could be wrong.
For me, at auction, it’s maybe a £12k car as a sight-unseen purchase.

The Fuji car Dickie has looks way better. Though at an understandably different price point.

Needs to be repatriated.

Not necessarily wear - my car with 33k miles had a steering wheel which looked worn out - turned out the only owner before me liked his hand cream - Yuk! - and had deposited enough of it on the wheel to make it look like faded black leather. 1hr with leather cleaner, a medium brush, a bit of swearing and it came up like new. The seat bolster wear is also normal if the drivers have been with big bones...

I agree on your price assesment though - there is a lot of elbow grease to go into that interior before it can be worthy of the Trident and at 45k miles it's either crying out for a new clutch, or the auctioneers aren't great at advertising a great selling point (that it has had one recently)...

Market overall seems a bit **** at present - a collectors grade CSL made only £130k odd last week, there is a 924GT in great condition for £58k on the market, 911GT cars are also subdued...

And yet, a 2016 Maserati GTS with 18k miles on the clock made 4k over CAP Clean at BCA last week... Go figure...

"interesting" results happen at certain trade auctions for "interesting reasons".

I'm sure @dickygrace has witnessed it first-hand, many of my contacts in the non 'interesting' part of the trade have.

Sold for £43k … which could be a bargain for someone, although I reckon it’ll spend most of its days cocooned in a dehumidifier if it sold to a UK buyer.

Coming up for auction soon is the 612 Scaglietti that Autofficina have for sale. This car came up in discussions a few weeks ago on another thread. I guess they haven't been able to shift it out of their showroom at the £50k asking price. It does look like it's had a slightly hard life and could do with a bit of a tidy up. The cambelt was done a couple of years ago so has three left on it (every 5 years on a 612, I think) but no mention anywhere of the clutch being replaced ...

These are getting more and more tempting. A relatively modern and very usable 200mph Ferrari for less than £50k.
A 612 is certainly on my radar as a possible replacement for my 400i. (I prefer the looks of the 456, but the 612 is simply a better, and bigger, car.)

Early car. Spend more on a later one and you won’t regret it.
