I think we already have it, but it’s on a lower list price. It’s unclear which party was in government when it was introduced.

Fair enough, if you can afford a $100,000 car or a $250,000 boat you can afford the tax. Way better than congestion/emission zones that excessively penalise the poor.

Don’t forget the aeroplane. That’s in there too.

I have not checked how their annual car tax works. At least our supplement is relatively low and stops after 6 years. I do remember special car tax about three decades ago mind.

Given where we are, given Huracan’s are now available with a roof rack, I think it is a good idea. We need to tone our consumption down and luxury cars are part of that problem..you got money to waste, pay up for the excess. I’ll keep on buying them once the depreciation has come down :p

I wonder how many new planes are under C$100k?

I have no idea, or interest for that matter.

I did look at sales taxes in Canada though. Sales Tax, (VAT here I guess) is 5%. So we already pay more than them, on any sort of car/plane/boat.

Yes seems to vary between 5 and 15% including province or state taxes. I wonder what taxes on earnings are like?

Without looking in detail we all plan financially in our various countries based on the current tax take so any increases have a detrimental impact.

The problem with people in power is that they do not need to either buy cars or drive them.
Checked out Al Gores house -electricity usage?

According to the report, Gore’s 20 bedroom home energy usage averaged at 19,241 kilowatt hours (kWh) per month, which is 34 times higher than the average dwelling’s usage of 901 kWh per month.

The report reiterates that point by saying “Gore guzzles more electricity in one year than the average American family uses in 21 years.”

But he wants us to go green.
