As they are the thing that is holding you on the road, I would never dream of going budget with an 180+mph car, just no sense in it..!!

You sure? The Ultrac Sessantas are great tyres.

Ok, my tyre guy told me they are a buget brand I have no reason to doubt him, I was a little shocked and double checked with him myself!

His response was: "you don't want them on a car like that"...

Well I've run them on m5 and Rs4 for many years and so have many others and they are quality in all weather.

Yes; specifically that treat pattern. A friend had the same experience totally separately and without knowing. The regular non run flats are fine it's just the run flat variety. Remember the M series cars don't use run flats which is why you probably remember them being fine

I have never run Vreds myself so I should probably keep quiet but he was quite persistent in his views and I tend to find he is spot on...

A lot of the Alfa boys run Vreds and swear by them. A mate has a 500 BHP Supra Turbo with them on and he reckons they give him the best feel ever and grip well in all conditions.

Personally I use Goodyear Eagle F1 AS2, simply awesome

They used to be thought of as a budget brand, but I think they have come on a fair bit. I had their winter tyres Wintrac extreme I think.

Any manufacturer could start off as a budget, then get better at it and produce quality product eventually, but they still have to perform and last as good as the competition..!!

I had them on my old Discovery and they were fine. Now on Goodyear winters on the new one.

What options do you have?

If it was me I would go Goodyear, vreds, Michelin Pilot or Toyo Proxies.

Therein lies the problem!
Toyo Proxies (no stock)
Vreds (no size available)
Bridgestone (ruled out)
Pirelli (normal choice)

After 3 days of internet trawling, no result!

285/40x18 seeems to be going out of fashion!

It might be worth checking such as Black Circle, or some other dealer network. I tried to get Rosso's from Pirelli but was told they had been dropped for the 3200, I found some at a dealer and got them fitted, worth a shot..??

You hit it on the head there, Pirelli and Bridgestone seems to be the only available choices.

While there are other choices available on th US market, I am not sure if they are E Marked as required by Eurocrats.

The only other decent brand tyre I saw was Yokohama Advans but they were £300 a pop which is silly money.

Only other option seems to be a lower profile but this could deteriorate the ride quality. A costly experiment but notice Goodyear do 285/35/18.

How good are the roads around you??

There is no shortage of 35 profile ok.
Roads are a mixture of motorway and ****.

Was thinking of 35's but think they would look 'undernourished' in the wheelarch!

Would 45's fit?
