Big Decision Time

I hate decisions like this but my gut feel is telling me that this year it is time to more the Spyder on. Lots of reasons but in essence I have too many cars and they are all suffering from lack of use.

I have considered each one and have decided I can't let the SZ, Q4 or Giulietta go and the QP is on no state to move on at present. Which leaves only two I could or would be able to see go which are the GT & the Spyder. I need to keep one of those as the daily driver for a while which means it all comes down to what I would do with the money each would release and that is where the Spyder comes out on top. If I sell it on I will release enough money to replace Mrs Zs Range Rover which needs to be replaced as it is both family bus and holiday tow wagon.

I have spent a small fortune sorting out most of the issues on the Spyder and although it has highish mileage (57k) it is has had most of the big mechanical stuff sorted, brakes discs, pads & pipes all replaced, recent clutch and actuator, wheels powder coated, stainless bolts and new tyres and lots of little stuff have been sorted as well as each yearly service all done by Emblem.

Emblem believe that mechanically it is now in very good condition, they have always rated the body as in very good condition and now even underneath is up to good condition so overall I think it is a well sorted example.

My current plan is to use it for Le Mans and then sell in July which if we have a nice summer should be the ideal time to move it on.

Thoughts ?

Get it on the market promptly after Le Mans or even when you are out there...Summer can be short and fickle and a soft top sells far quicker when the sun is out.

Sorry to see that you're in this situation but the problem with letting the Spyder going is that with the QP laid up, you will not have a road going Maserati so you may live to regret letting it go?

What's wrong with the QP

It looked lovely when I saw it at Oulton park last year

While it's a good time of year to be marketing a convertible they're also holding their money very well

You may find if you sell it then fancy another next year you have to put money to a car that's not as nice mechanically or cosmetically

The good news is cosmetically Conaero may have found the forum body shop if mine comes back as nice as I'm expecting it to

Much as I hate to admit it Andy, you seem to have thought this trough. Have the advert ready to go after Le Mans and that way you can add in some scenic shots with the car showing what convertibles do best.

Well, I think the above pretty much sums up our feelings Andy, shame on you for considering it.

Add up the number of pistons on all your cars and keep one in each group 2/4/6/8 cylinders!

Cars are like tools in the shed.

Whoever dies with the most, wins! Keep em all!!

Send the kids down the mines or up the chimneys to work and tell the missus to find a job.
That should fund your new family wagon!

I have had the same epiphany. Now up to 6 cars and 2 motorbikes. It's the lack of use and I would rather somebody used them. The First 2 vehicles are on the market - SL500 and a ZX7 RR.

The biggie is the GS that is doing its best to hold on and stay by deliberately not liking her new clutch. We are now in consultation with the technical department at Modena to work out what the chuff is going on.

One benefit of a clear out - more cash and garage space. The temptation for a banzai estate is gnawing at me as a daily driver. The Giulietta is looking at a precarious period of tenure, particularly as I have cancelled the order for the Giulia QV.

Andy,

You have to do what is right for you but only a few weeks ago you were seriously tempted to buy my GS Spyder, so surely you will miss the 4200 Spyder if you like it that much you were tempted to upgrade to a GS?

I suppose it depends how desperately the Range Rover needs upgrading?

I know I will regret selling the GS Spyder (and I still miss my Grigio Nuvolari coupé which I think looks much better than my black MCV).

Maybe think about a Discovery 3 or 4? They are probably better family wagons than the Range Rover and they tow better as well and cost less than a RR of the same age.

I will miss the Spyder no doubt about it, but it only has 2 seats and is fecking expensive to run. I should have broke the bank and bought the GS Spyder when it was available

Disco 4 is the preferred tow barge

You could buy a nice classic 3200GT Andy, 4 seats and all that ;)

What's happened to your old QP?

Since opening the bar last year, I've hardly used my CC 2004. What's the market like right now? I'll be getting her fully serviced and valeted prior to sale.

I bought from Dicky up in Chester almost 3 years ago with a full inspection and new clutch. I should have a set of disks in MAF's garage (paid for but as away from forum too late to get on the distribution list).

Prices appear to be on the up but are they selling?

I've got straight through exhaust on from Marios (together with original boxes). She's done around 60k now. Runs beautifully.
