Best Maserati colours

I know colours are very subjective but what are the most popular colours for modern Maseratis? Which colours show off the curves and subtle details of the bodywork the best?

Well, I think its all about contrast, inside and out. Dark exterior, light interior and vice versa. I know you talking about exterior shapes, so I will have to go black, when clean, nothing beats it....with a tobacco, tan or red interior.

Black is also the hardest colour to paint a car as it shows every imperfection in the panel work below.

White is nice also, being the opposite end of the scale to black, it also does not reflect so always looks flat, bit like my Grigio Alfieri...and these light colour also dont show the dirt.

Hi Evoke,

I suspect a consensus might be difficult to come by! I have Grigio Nuvolari, which I love, especially with cream interior. Strange thing is, I often mistakenly think mine is green, as that's the colour I see reflected in other drivers faces when I look over ;);)

I have the standard silver wheels, but do have a real hankering for the graphite's. They give the car real presence IMO.

Cheers, Emtee.

I am so surprised that there are not more in rosso mondiale as it looks terrific. On the other hand it makes it much more select:D

I am a big fan of black with cream/tan interior. That said there is a silver Granturismo with red interior outside my work most days and it does look good.

Fuji White is a spectacular colour, though I would be hard pressed to find a colour I don't like on a Maserati ;)

Agreed it looks fab. I think the reason you dont see more is that its a bit Ferrari, and would thus assume, that the more discerning Maserati owner, does not want to look like a wanna be Ferrari owner.

Dont get me wrong, it think its perfect, and I have said this before about this colour.

Got to agree here with Bigfoot the perfect combination for me is Fuji but with very dark blue metallic wheels blue tinted rear glass i think that would look awesome and still retain a certain j na se qua

Agree with most comments,
Particularly about the contrast, dark exterior/light interior and vice-versa.
Also quite like the subtle little touches inside, like contrast stiching or piping in moderation,
Regards,
Enzo.

IMHO I think grigio alfieri or Verdi mistral with grigio medio interior looks very classy (but then I would wouldn't I!). It's a good alternative to the contrasting options above. Then again it doest show the curves as well as something like black with a deep lustre. I like the dark red and tan too though.

Hope I don't annoy anyone but I really don't like blue Interior as it just doesn't seem to wear well and most I've seen look tired

Mind you I do baulk at light coloured footwell carpets - despite mats etc the practical person in me doesn't see the sense - dark colours show the dirt much less (and this from someone with avorio seats that need cleaned every 5 minutes!).

After having a black Alfa Romeo, having a silver car is easy to keep clean. I know it is the most exciting colour but for our climate it works well.

It depends on the shape ot the car, a black Quattroporte V is just right, but the 4200s look much better in lighter metallics. I also think Grigio Nuvolari is stunning, wish I had cream leather instead of the default Nuvola beige, so drab.

Guess there will always be 'safe bets' like my black and tan GranTurismo or any of the shades of silver but I can't forget the first time I walked into the show room and saw my Mediteranean (or whatever it's called) blue Gransport, I was just stunned! I bought one of the first GTs and at the time it was only available in black, various shades of silver, dark blue, maroon and I think green so went for the safe black (which I still think looks superb!) but if at the time it was available in that blue I would have found the bravery, reds pretty good too.

Would anyone be kind enough to explain the official Maserati colour names and what they mean in English please?!

My own preference would be to get a darker paintwork colour with a lighter interior. I would also like the darker wheels (but not black wheels) to go with the darker paintwork colour. As for interiors, i've had a white interior before and found that dye was transferred from my clothing to the points where the seat back met the seat squab. I wasn't able to remove this dye even with the use of professional leather cleaners. Thus, i'd be inclined to go for a light interior but not white(ish).

Excellent thread Evoke, and one which I thought might inspire some response.

Forgetting the colours of the cars we have, I would opt for Black with cream interior on just about any car ...but it looks great on the 3200/4200 models.
Light leather is so hard to keep spotless; the grain exaggerates the dirt. My wife's car has Llama grey leather and it's horrible to maintain but gorgeous to look at.

With pure Italian Exotica, it's worth looking for heritage; so red has to be the colour. If I were owning a Ferrari it would have to be red; same for Alfa (and my GTV was Alfa Rosso).
So with the 4200, back to roots and Rosso Bologna - the least likely candidate for preferred colour but I'm very happy with it for emphasising the beautiful lines of the car.
The Americans love it; but I'm not sure that is a recommendation; my daughter-in-law is from the US and her parents are coming over in a fornight so will seek their opinion.

This is the car I saw being serviced at the local dealer in Boston (US) that made me go buy a Grigio Nuvolari GS...it's not an LE, but has the mercury wheels. The car looked more sporting than mine with the black interior and dark grey metallic technical cloth and carbon fibre package.

Hope this gives you an idea, as you consider re-finishing your wheels.
