Knowing some of you live/lived/have experience of Bavaria I’d appreciate some help as we are planning to do the 280 mile German Alpine Route that snakes just north of the Austrian Alps from the Lindau on the Bodensee, through Oberammergau, Ettal (and it's beer brewing monks!!), Garmisch Partenkirchen, Chiemsee to Berchtesgadener ending in Konigssee. It would take us about a week and we’d like to catch the autumn colours (promise I’ll post some pix!) - so when is a good time to do it?
Our hostess, when we recently stayed in Oberndorf, Black Forest (40 miles south east of Strasbourg), said end September/early October was a good time and that would be perfect as it would coincide with return travels from the forum’s forthcoming epic trip. What does the team think? Many thanks.
