hi- we are planning a trip to the seaside over the long weekend and wondering if any good beaches, but more importantly, any good, fast, twisty roads that you can recommend to get down there to ideally avoid motorways. I live in South East London so East Sussex is probably quicker/easier for me to get to but not decided yet as I don't know that part of the country very well. any advice is much appreciated! cheers

On the August bank holiday.....? You are unlikely to be going anywhere at speed! (unless we get "bank holiday" weather!)

Hi Sham83,

I'm in Hastings, and whilst I wouldn't recommend it per se, there are some nice places dotted around the nearby countryside.

However.

The road network down this neck of the woods is beyond pants.. there are no good driving roads.. if you find one please let me know!.. Also being the Bank Holiday the roads will be rammed making it even more miserable.

There's some nice sweeping roads and great views around Beachy Head/Seven Sisters over at Eastbourne.. however again they're likely to be gridlocked over that particular weekend.

Sorry for the grim news, but if it's decent roads you're after I'd head to the tunnel and get across to Europe :)

Thanks for this advice. I was planning on visiting Battle Abbey and then heading down the to beach in Hastings, but I think I will take your advice and stay away this weekend!

No problem. The Abbey is nice, as is Battle as a whole.. quite quaint. Hastings old town is very nice with some free museums, but the new town is just like any other modern concrete shopping block.

If you do come down in the future I'd love to have a look at the GranTurismo! There's three 3200's that I know of in Hastings and one 4200.. but that's as modern as we get down here :)

I was down there not long ago. Beachy Head is a good drive. But you need to be up early to avoid the traffic. If you want something to visit and the weather is nice the Seven Sisters cliffs are nice.

But this weekend the traffic will be choca unless it is raining! Is it?

There are some great back roads that I do going from South London to Brighton in the evening in the summer.

I think it might be, but then that defeats the purpose of going for a nice (fast) drive to the beach!

Nah. Any weather is good. Raining or not. Just need to respect the conditions, but you can still have fun. Beats sitting at home.

Agreed- we ended up driving around Essex yesterday, and Surrey next weekend. Enjoy it before the weather gets really ****...

Sham - we have a group of owners that meet every so often that you maybe interested in coming along to - we are scattered around East Sussex and Kent with a couple from London too. We are mainly around the Tunbridge Wells area so if you fancy joining us at some point its only a shortish hop down the A21 - probably an hour or so's drive depending on where you are. One of our guys lives in Bexleyheath and makes it to most meetings.

We also team up sometimes with a group of owners from Kent so you'd be looking at a trip down the M20 I think for this.

Some of us will be at the Honington event next week - maybe see you there...

As Mark from Hastings has said earlier on, our group is made up of 3200, 4200 and GranSport models so would be nice to see your GranTurismo...
