Criminally underpriced cars. The problem is that the majority of the ones for sale will be rough cars. A good one (like @Mooster owns) is worth way more, but bargain hunters don’t like to be told to not buy a ‘cheap’ one. Therefore the market is continually dragged down by the dross, which inevitably doesn’t sell and just drags down the price of the good ones over the long term as they sit unsold for so long.
And then they slate the car and brand for the high cost of ownership (putting right the faults that made it cheep in the first place) which impacts on the market further... and round and round we go.

Not really a fair comparison, early GranTurismo is less desirable because of its smaller engine and plain looks. I’d imagine its more reliable than the 4200 and doesn’t have the big clutch expense among other things.

4200s on the other hand do not have many significant changes over the years.

So true, ever decreasing circles.

I have run 3 4200/GS cars over the last 13 years so know as much as most what they can cost to run and maintain.

You can get a project car and run it well for c18k, you can also get a 'good car and it may bight your hand off with costs.

There are some big ticket prices for parts not just the clutch... in fact I would feel confident that the clutch should be low down on your worries because you can still get them.

Suspension is the one I would look out for more, they are 12+ years old and some major parts are NLA.

Buy on history and time the car has spent with its last owner... one +60k miles are the bargains as they have been used regularly and more likely to have seen a garage each year.
Hi Safrane. I'm also in the market for a Gransport so this thread has been quite timely. This forum in general has been very useful for background research on the cars with most issues appearing to be quite reasonable considering age and type of car etc. I'm interested to know what parts you refer to as NLA? Is this referring to OEM parts or others that would make the car unusable?
Many thanks in advance.

As I understand it, some of the wishbones for the suspension are presently NLA from Maserati. They have been known to crack or split, and changing the bushes is also a difficult job, additionally the ball joints can't be replaced.

However pattern parts have been made by Eurospares previously, but not for all of the 8 types... but they may do another run in the future. There is some stock out there but it could get harder to source.

As far as we know, no other manufacturers have them in development.

I am however hoping this will be resolved in the future, as OEM parts were over a grand each.

Some of the rigid brake lines are NLA, think handbrake cables are NLA, sure there are probably others :(
