Anyone Know the Spyder at Mathewsons

Hi,

I'm addicted to looking at the auctions at Mathewsons and spotted this Spyder in the next auction - 2002 Maserati Spyder

Does anyone know this car?

Failing that I notice there are a couple of warning lights;
  • Light failure - which I'm assuming should be a cheapish fix.
  • Electronic Suspension Failure - which is triggering my "run away now" senses
Any ideas of the possible costs in fixing the latter?

Other than that it's a little tatty in places and missing some internal covers.

First of all its a Cat N or in old money Cat D so that guide price is out the window ..................but thats not to say anything about the condition but more about resale prices , you will have to go round it with a fime toothcomb and try and assess where the repair was and how it was prepared and repaired , take a magnet with you , If it tatty generally then it has to be low balled pricewise but bare in mind that its worth at least £5/6k scrap parts

Sub-frame!! Always check the front subframe just behind the drivers side front wheel. That section tends to go first, but do check all of the subframes and the rest of the car underneath. I could see some surface rust by the jacking points from the published pictures but what's the rest of the car like?

There's no mention of clutch wear (£3-4k), tyres £100 a corner), annual service £1500. Lambdas (£?)

Roary was known as the 'Tatty Ratty' and he's forever needing a bit of TLC (but my heart rules my head) - buyer beware. I also believe rust can be an issue around the rear light clusters (or somewhere like that)

Reading your original post I think you answer the question perfectly. Run away unless you are very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, handy on the spanner’s yourself.

There's enough evidence in the Mathewsons photos to have me worried, interior looks tired, missing covers under the bonnet, boot trim missing or out of place. On top of that factor in its Cat status and lack of service information would mean as a minimum I would have to go and look before I would bid.

I always have the issue with Mathewsons is the lack of additional info they give other than photos and a video, no attempt to point out good or bad bits which would mean you nearly always have to go and see or take a punt blind

Year/colour/etc?
2003 - so the updated chassis (more rigid) , glass window etc, but the earlier classico bodywork.
Colour is Argento Luna (Grigio alloy is the other name for it) which you can see in my profile pic.
Blue interior. grey piping. It's done 63k miles, most of that in my possession (owned since 2009 if my memory serves me correctly!)
It has the CD player, sat nav, electric seats, windstop kit (still in the case), toolkit, all manuals.
It also has the super rare carbon pack, (steering wheel, gear knob and door fillets)
According to Maserati it is the only one in the world to this spec. Oh, and it's a manual, so even rarer.
It was featured in a classic car magazine a few years back.
It's never had paint, so it does have a few stone chips on the front. Subframes and underside fully rust protected. No sign of any corrosion anywhere! Heater matrix done a couple of years ago. New forum discs front and rear, EBC pads. Michelin PS4 tyres, hardly worn.
Everything works. Great service history with a very well respected indie. It lives in my garage and rarely sees rain or adverse conditions.
It's been super reliable too - been to Italy a couple of times in it without any issues. I have pics of it on the display area outside the Maserati factory.
It does have sticky buttons and vents though - that was my next job!
PM me if you want to have a look at it when the weather gets better. I'm in absolutely no rush to sell, and will genuinely be looking for the right person to take on Sophia!

It does indeed sound lovely - and well loved - but I doubt I'm big/strong enough to drive a manual (and don't tell my spyder that I was asking;))
