Anyone got stats on annual UK private (no dealer) car sales?

Hi all,

Going through a bit of a collection change (too many cars to try before I croak it) and sold a couple of cars over the past couple of months and on the look-out for some replacements, I got thinking about how many private sales (person to person - no dealer involved) happen each year in the UK. I can go onto the SMMT and they estimate about 7m+ cars each year but that is from info gathered from their dealer network.

So I started reserarching how many private transactions happen I can't seem to find any data or research.

Anyone got any ideas, stats or can point me to something online?

I guess you'd have to find out how many owner changes take place per year, then deduct dealer number.

Not sure that number is available from the DVLA (GDPR and all that).

A friend of mine has had at least 10 cars this year alone, so I couldn't even possibly guess a number.
