My lockdown project has been to remove leaking left fuel tank, which luckily I got repaired just before the restrictions on travel. I have cleaned out all the rust and crud under the tanks (metal was sound) and I am putting in some heat shield.
Under the fuel bin (accessible from underneath the car by the rear wheel) there is this circular item. At the moment there is nothing connected to the metal pipe on top but 2 plastic pipes go down from the fuel bin above this part. One pipe is simply the drain from the fuel filler and so I can't see why what needs to connect to anything. The other, more likely option, is a pipe which comes down from the ceiling area next to the fuel tank breather which goes from one tank to the other round the top of the rear window. I don't know what that pipe is but you can blow through it.
Before I follow my instinct and connect this pipe to the round metal thingy, I thought I better check what it is and where does the plastic pipe go? Neither seem to be on the Eurospares diagrams.
This is the mystery part from the side and above.
