I spoke to him the LHM was rebuilt in 2006 with all new pipes and the other bits..spheres was it?

The engine sound like its going to be a bag of spanners, and the price is rocketing, so I am leaving this one well alone.

Hi Matt,

No bad thing that the LHM components were rebuilt, but that was 4 years back and they haven't been used since. This will mean that if you were to get it together that leaks would sping up from dried seals etc. The pump would be ok, but the spheres should be checked regularly as they contain Nitogen gas that can leak out over time and may need recharging again.

I agree with you regards the engine as it is an unknown bag of bits with damage. Shame unless some lucky person has an engine in teh back yard, have heard of Citroen SM engines being used as replacements etc but they must be getting scarce. I think Andrew Brodie is the expert on these engines, if anyone interested in buying they would be best getting in touch with him.

Thanks Bal. Its a shame, when a car gets on ebay, it goes for more money than its worth, great for the vendor, but not for us folk trying to look for a resto. The margins are just too tight these days.

Shame, as it will probably fall into the hands of some dreamer and never get finished and ending up being parted.

The guy who is selling it, from the look of his garage, is no amateur. If he has given up on it, there is probably a good reason for that.

I think you have to find these cars offline and barter with the guy.

...besides, its a Bora I lust after, the Merak just catches my eye as it looks similar.

Totally agree with you Matt.

It's gonna get pushed way beyond it's true value given the amount of work needed. Will sit in another garage for a few years and then get moved on in sme form or another. If you could buy that car for around £5K then it would be worth it and spend time hunting down an engine or heads etc, but then again I'm the typical indian after a bargain!
Some real nasty pictures in the club mag a couple of years back showing damage when a valve fails, not nice at all. I think the unit will have hidden issues that's forced the guy to move the car on.

Good shape though, some say batter balanced than the Bora due to the rear end treatment. More chance of finding a project Merak than a Bora at the right price given the rarity.

Another reason I like my Khamsin as well as only 72 odd were made in RHD and not all came to the UK market.
