I know of a low mileage special edition Nurburgring one which was sold for almost 180k!!!!!

Nice, but not that nice.

I took a pic when it was in the local BMW dealer when Alex had her 3 series.

E30 M3s have been rocketing in value for a while, wish I'd bought one when they were sub-£10k. Sport Evos now regularly fetch well north of £100k, there were a pair of delivery miles cars around a couple of years ago that fetched eye-watering amounts. Shame they can't be driven, they will have just gone into a collection somewhere.

When I bought my Elise in 2007, it shared the forecourt with a couple of other cars I was interested in, all of them have gained a LOT more value than my Elise has (though I don't regret it..)

There was:
A 1974 Fiat 124 Spider - £5k and the reason I went to the garage in the first place.
An E30 M3 (non evo) - £7k. Red with black, solid but needing a bit of a tidy and about 65k miles I think.
A 1997 TVR Chimera - £10k and sitting right next to my Elise.
They also had various 80s Rolls / Bentley which recall being a lot cheaper than nowadays, though I'm not so interested in such cars..

Evo II have always been pricey but not this pricey. I turned down a standard E30 M3 @ £10k back in 2008 :(

I'd be interested to know which version that car was as it must be the most expensive E30 M3 ever. These are all the special editions ever made:

Evolution I : 505 produced 02/87 - 05/87 (incl "Tour de Corse" edition)
Evolution II : 501 produced 03/88 - 06/88
Europa Meister 88 edition : 148 produced from 10/88 - 11/88
Johnny Cecotto edition : 480 produced from 04/89 - 07/89
Roberto Ravaglia edition : 25 produced in 06/89
Johnny Cecotto and Ravaglia had same limited edition badge, numbered as .../500
Sport Evolution : 600 produced from 12/89 - 03/90

The car in the photo looks like a Cecotto spec. I've never seen one go for anything like £180k, even £80k! The Sport Evos are the holy grail and are consistently £100k+ now.

I'm sure it was a Nurburgring 'special', but looking at list there isn't one. Unless it was a 'one off'.
I asked a guy in the showroom how much it would take to buy it, he said it had been lent to them by the new owner who had just paid just under 180k for it. So he said it would have to be 200 grand.
I'm not up on M3's (or any BMW for that matter), but as nice as it is I wouldn't pay that for it, even if I did have the money.

Maybe it has special provenance?

Original E30 M3s just drive so nicely on paper not a super fast car but you soon learn the whole is greater than the sum of its parts when you drive it. The only car to give the Cossies and real competition in the crazy days of touring cars in the late 80s

Crazy, that is true ref to Z3M.

Offered a Ferrari 360 manual 3 years ago for 38k, the buyer sold a few months ago for 62k. Banked 666 quid a month!

Bloody he'll Dem...I sold my Evo 11 for 12k.........I would love to have it back...Not that quick anymore but it was like a go Karl......Had an Integrale after it which was brilliant but missed the M3 more. One of BMWs greats.

Offered both the Ferrari's I had to the forum and no takers.
Both now worth more than double than when I owned them.
So as they say in the Den I'm out.
