Hi all. I'm new here!
I got one of these aggressively priced deals and collected the car on Friday.
I've just gotten rid of an E92 M3 with a fair amount of options but since then I've fathered child number 2 and needed something with more doors. After a number of test drives in different cars I settled on a new CLS350 and was due to take delivery in around 2 weeks from now, but was told due to a shortage of Merc 9G transmissions, they were cannibalising CLS350 production in favour of getting more E350s out the door and so no guarrantee of a car this side of September.
So I started shopping around and saw a very aggressive deal advertised by Parks (as per comments; no proper website up yet other than the boggo Parks Motorgroup one but they do have a Maserati branded page here:
http://www.maserati.com/dealers/uk/en/parks_maserati/index/dealer/about-us.html ,albeit hard to find on google). - As an aside - Adverts from online brokers stating 5k miles and 9 payments up front isn't really representative of how well or not a marque/model is doing - I was offered a Panamera Diesel for similar money to the Ghibli but would have had to wait till June to get it (and I don't think Porsche are having problems selling those).
I didnt want a typical 3 box, German saloon on my drive and so was quite interested. Basically FCA Contract Hire are giving you a 15% discount on the list price of the car if you take a three year deal. Parks Maserati are trying to shift 5 new cars a month across the range. So they're not exactly looking to do massive volume anyway but FCA are keen to increase market penetration.
I got a Ghibli Diesel in base white , with 20inch Urano wheels (sporty looking titanium finish) and extended leather (black with red stitching), which they had sitting unregistered on the lot. Got them to chuck in privacy glass (aftermarket) as per factory option. Deal was 6+35 at £644 per month inc VAT.
Obviously not quite a car that compares with the likes of the GranTurismo or the Quattroporte but my friends and neighbours don't know that. They just think I'm now some sort of tycoon because I'm swanning around in a Maserati.
Coming from an M3, it' actually a perfect first saloon car (I've never owned a car with more than 2 doors before). It's quite chuckable and has a firm ride whilst being a bit softer and more refined than the M3 that it replaced. Reviews haven't been that kind but most of these same reviewers tell you the best 5 series in the range is the 520d and that S Line suspension in Audi's is too harsh, so it really depends on your perspective. If these reviewers expect every exec. saloon should ride like a magic carpet then they obviously wont like the Ghibli.
Gear shifter takes some getting used to. Touchscreen system is pretty grim in comparison to it's German rivals. Switchgear no better nor worse than same. Im still not 100% on it's looks from anything other than the front and I miss having a petrol V8, however fuel economy is much better than the 15.5mg I saw in the BMW and having taken the wife away to Stobo Castle for the weekend, the number of open-mouthed gawps from male youths and adults a-like has been quite nice and not something that the fairly nondescript M3 ever enjoyed unless you were driving it like a hooligan.
I've not owned a car that has garnered this much attention since owning a launch date Mk2 Audi TT (admittedly not one of my finest moments in car selection from a masculine credibility point of view). So it's a bit different, it gets plenty of attention, I'm enjoying the drive and its only 60 quid a month more than I was paying for the M3.
Oh and it's a freaking Maserati.
Job done.
