I stumbled across one of his threads the other day, he's not quite an expert yet, he mentions something about being surprised to find 3 bolt strut tops as he thought that the 16v had 4 bolt strut tops. Doh!!! 3 bolt strut tops are not model specific, they are specific to all cars manufactured after 1993. I think he has much to learn....

Hehe, even I know about the 3 bolt suspension turrets/1993/galvanised cars.

Still learning!

Hello there!

I can't remember who it was who suggested it, but I have just received my Strut Brace from OMP. Who ever it was said there was quite a bit of flex in the chassis, I will admit I was a little sceptic about it but for $160 delivered to my door, but it was worth the risk.

I have recently put in Poly for all replacement rubbers and there was something missing.....it seemed to spin the front tyres when I put my foot down mid corner, but now with the brace it is magic! I haven't stopped smiling since I put it in and first drove it!!!!

Thanks for the advice!

That was me! Yep, lots of people go on about how the extra bulkheads negates the need for a strutbrace, I always remind them of what happens when you jack the car up and then try to open or close a door, that demonstrates how wobbly the shell is, it needs all the help it can get! Just be a bit careful with polybushes, making everything too stiff puts extra stress on an already weak shell, front chassis legs can crack. If you don't have the engine bay bracing bars from the later models, get some asap!!

Hey Dicky!

Yeah it was definitely you who said it, I remember the thing about jacking the car up which is what prompted me to get it.

We touched on the poly bushes once before, all I have changed is Lower Sway bar mounts, Steering arms, Pan Hard Rod and rear Trailing arms....everything else is left as rubber mounts.
I have a series 1 body with the series 3 16v motor in it, and who ever had the car before me put the strengthening arms in prior to me buying it. The Chassis was cracked and I have had
that repaired and also plated up to give it a little more bulk.

It is funny, prior to putting the sway bar in as I said in my previous post, it seemed to spin the wheels mid corner when I sank the boot in, and also off a set of lights, I could never put my
foot flat to the floor as it would just sit there and dance across my lane, now with the sway bar in, it's all but gone. There is still a little bit there, but I have an old set of Yoki A drives on
there and they need to be replaced, so not really the car's fault.

Thanks for the advice again!

Lovely to see the old girl progressing, I know of a couple of others going through a similar process and a friend of mine is currently putting P4 running gear into a restored Sportwagen which should be interesting.

I forgot to say thanks for letting me come round and view the car. I could tell you were at the 'annoyed' stage of a car restoration but stick at it, make a list and just keep ticking those items off.

Not long now!

No problem Matt, good to meet you, loved the GS! Pity you didn't get to see the car as it is now, it looks so much better now its been cleaned and has some sunshine on it. You're right, I am at the annoyed stage, the car is pretty close to being finished but there is a seemingly never ending list of niggly jobs to do which I think will take some time but I am determined to get the car to Spa Francorchamps for Spa Italia in September.

This is an awesome thread, hats off to you for this. I had a 33 16v about 12 years ago, still miss it. It was 'almost' rust free but sold it to get a 156, big mistake!
