airco problem: could it be that I need a charge?

First things first I have an interior trim cover panel in 2007 car that I haven't got in 2003. Is the 2003 car missing it or they added to later 2007 car to stop passengers kicking it maybe?

Anyone else know if panel is there on other 4200's?

I'll add pic in sec.

Just did same procedure on 2007 car and don't get any polling or clicking from a/c compressor. When you hot unplug then replug the blower cable it just blows straight away or stops to the second of unplug/replug.

Icons on control unit are greyed the same when unplugged. Maybe nuances/differences between 2003 to facelift 2007. Maybe later/better control unit/ ECU or software updates.

Going to try control unit swap now.

Right control units swapped. To start with on both cars blower is working perfectly. Just trying to see if I can get failure now on either.

They do at the moment! Can't get either to fail yet. Maybe bad contact on back of control unit.....who knows.

Going to break for a sandwich & tea

Didn't make tea or sandwich yet as too stubborn! I've got the 2003 hybrid to fail which is good and bad. At least I know it is not the control panel. Seems like the a/c compressor or whatever that clicking is coming from is the key.

It doesn't do this with either control unit in the 2007 car. It always does it with the 2003 hybrid.

Could it be something silly like needing a regas or top up? Or maybe failing a/c compressor? Weird that the error is coming up as blower when it doesn't seem to be. Only way I can prove that is to swap blowers but I'm not doing that!

Wonder if I can wire in a temp long few cables to connect 2003 hybrid car to 2007 blower without taking either out?

Might be gas I guess, that would make the clutch throw out on the compressor, and is simple to get checked

Might see if Halfrauds can do it this arvo. For 50 squid regas it has to be worth a shot. Doesn't totally add up as it works fine hot & cold when it works.

I have a video of clicking when it does. Easier to hear when blower cable is disconnected as happens every 5 secs.

Could it be failing a/c compressor as that noise is not as apparent or anywhere near as loud if so in 2007 car.

Having sufferd AC compressor failure, check for any play in the pully as the bearing is the weak point.

Thought I'd go round corner to Indy Land Rover guy (Aylmer's) to see if he thought it might need regas maybe check levels and top up or refill.

Was expecting blower not to be working....got in car...started up....working fine!

Drove round corner he wasn't there....drove back. Told the boss I was going to get car washed round corner....got in....drove off....not working!

Drove down road with blower not working....turned manual fan speed know to off....turned on....nothing. Down our lane is a bit bumpy....turned off.....on again.....working fine.

Getting closer but no cigar yet....maybe a/c compressor is having issues....or lose connector/connection somewhere.

At least I can force it to work or not fairly easily it seems. Just needing it working reliably all the time. The only thing that is throwing me is why it is giving a blower error.

Still work OK & working nicely this morning. Maybe it just needed some love, care & attention.

Can anyone confirm if their 4200 gets a loudish click from the a/c compressor just inside the front when you turn the manual fan speed dial from off to on or on to off please?

Might bring the hybrid to the Ace on Thurs to see if it is the same or different to others.

That click is unbelievably loud, could it be that the power drain on the HVAC controller when the clutch is magnetised is causing the blower voltage to drop?

When it is working does it actually blow cold?
