Airbag reset light - 4200

There have been a number of posts about airbag lights in this forum. Some may relate to the 3200, and perhaps I've just been mistaken from the start, but I was under the impression that the airbag light on a 4200 needed a dealer MD-2 to reset it. I can confirm that whilst the airbag error is stored in the car, it can be reset with other diagnostics equipment, not specifically an MD-2.

Anyway, mine had both lights, illuminated, suggesting the deactivation switch was at fault). I worked the switch a little, on and off, with the key, then removed it and gave it and the connectors a good clean, took it to my local trusted indy garage who plugged in his Texa diagnostics kit, and it happily communicated with the car. It didn't recognise my car by the VIN that it read, but when manually selecting Maserati Coupe M138 it was happy to read, and do an airbag light reset. The error it reported suggested it was a fault with the switch as suggested too.

Obviously if I was mistaken, or if I'd read about a 3200 and just assumed it was the same for 4200, just ignore me.
If not, well, perhaps it suggests there is some more hope for the longer term survival of these cars :)

That's good to know, I have an airbag light that requires resetting.
Who was your specialist with texa diagnostics?

Thanks Chris
I need to get my airbag light knocked out before the mot.
Is the the Texa kit something only Maserati dealers will have or is it used across the car range?

The passenger airbag warning (which I think you are describing) will reset itself if the fault goes away (that is, if we assume the switch is normally the culprit, and it starts to behave itself)

The rest of them (e.g. you disconnect a steering wheel then turn the battery back on) will not.

However it does rather sound like the Texa unit may have the capability to fix that.

The light was on prior to my 900 mile NC500 tour. I've easily done another 100 miles plus since then too, without it going out. As I say, I'd cleaned the switch and worked it back and forth a few times. The left hand light was in, but very faint, the right hand light bright.

Not a Maserati dealer, nor a specialist, just a little independent garage in Dundee where I've always taken my cars:
https://www.alignmycar.co.uk/alignm...Kingdom/Dundee/Dundee/Paul-Bowers-Motors.html
Paul has built his business up on his own, and has some nice kit, including a full Hunter wheel alignment kit.
One of his more recent purchases is a Texa Adas Radar / Calibration kit, with which he bought with the Navigator TXTs diagnosis inferface, and I think the AXONE Nemo, essentially an industrial grade Windows tablet. Not one for the home user, but perhaps kit that some other local garages might have, if, like me, you are a fair distance from a main dealer.

We didn't have a long look as it was at the end of the day and he was closing up, but the Texa diagnostics displayed and reset the airbag light as I said, and also wiped another error that appeared (a throttle reset or similar I think - the car was misfiring, or similar around 2.5k revs).

It read the Skyhook system, displaying a green tick, and having options for the 4 shocks and a couple of other things in there, and displayed options for gearbox config, though, mine being a manual, I can't confirm exactly what.

Does make me wonder if it's just a case of more modern stuff has more options as these cars get older, or as Paul suggested, perhaps related to Texa being an Italian company.

Thanks for the information Chris, I might pay him a visit in the future. Do you get your MOT's done there?

Yes, I use Paul for my MOTs and servicing, only going elsewhere if I feel there is a specialist need.
He has the right mentality of using good quality parts and oil, and obviously has built his own reputation up over the years. He tends to be quite busy, needing 2 or 3 weeks prior booking to get an exact date, as it's just him, and his employee Jason, but then, that's what happens when people keep going back.

He's looked after my Elise for the past 10 years, although I do a lot of work on it myself, he did head gasket on my 944 S2, and has done a few things on the Maserati too, though obviously the majority of what he ends up working on from others is run of the mill cars.
With 4 cars (well, currently 3) in my household, I'm in there quite often, he also looks after my mother in laws car and some other friends / family.

I've heard enough stories about main dealer (normal car main dealers) in this area of the world (e.g Arnold Clark...) to know I'll never set foot in any of their service centres if I can help it, and will stick with someone who is honest and I trust.

Thanks for that Chris. I do virtually all the work on my cars myself, only going to a specialist if it's absolutely essential.

Sometime I hope to post how things have gone with my "cheap" 4200, it cost me ten grand, and so far all OK albeit with a bit if work from me. The only couple of things I havn't done myself is wheel alignment and AC recharge.

If I start to get lazy in my old age, I may give Paul a shout. ;)

Aware that Duncan at Alfa Net near Bristol can reset airbags etc via his tablet ODB.

Not sure what else he can do with it on the Maserati, but maybe helpful for owners near Bristol.
