Advice on purchase - Potential New Owner

Hi guys

I've recently sold my 370z and am looking to upgrade. I was initially considering a Cayman 981 (2013) but double checked current pricing for a maser GTS and was surprised to see you can pick up one for around the 35kmark. Petrol concerns me a little but doing 6500 miles a year and being used to 25mpg I think I can manage. I think the depreciation on the Cayman will be worse than an 09 GTS.

What are people's thoughts on the below..do you think it will have issues etc.

The GTS looks nice, and very good value for the mileage and full service history.

It's a massively different car though compared to a Cayman, so depends what you're after in a car... I may get abuse for saying so, but if you're looking for a real "point and squirt", genuine driver's car, then I think the Cayman is a better fit.

However, if you want something more refined, elegant, distinctive, with an engine sound to die for (and pretty good performance to match), then the GTS is a great choice...

A big warm welcome to the forum. I see there is a very lovely looking black GTS on Autotrader at 35k with red leather and black alcantara that may also be worth a look. It's had a 8k spent on it recently apparently.....New clutch and variators done as well. A few getting to 35k now.

Get the MC Shift it's the one to go for if you like a drivers car. Head turning and special!

Watch my video on here if you want to get a feel for the car.

Haha yes I would prefer the Mc Shift but not sure of their availability in my price range...I have a limit on my purchase price .

I've had aftermarket exhausts on both my 350 and 370z ....the noise was my favourite thing about them so yes the GTS sound is one of the main reasons I'm looking at them.

Do you think I'd be disappointed then if I got the auto?

That car was for sale in Scotland last summer for nearly £40k and struggled as all the red put people off (I guess) but you could always easily put a black steering wheel in to soften it down.

The 4.7 is becoming really good value now. Consider which gearbox you want (auto or MC) as they are very different and enjoy what you buy.

Drive both to make sure that the auto/MC shift is the one for you.

Also be aware of the extra costs of the S over the standard car as brakes as an example are a high cost item.

Good luck with the search...the one you posted looks very nice.

Nice one for your help guys appreciate it. Did anyone else go from a 25mpg to a 15mpg car I'm apprehensive about the move over surely it's not too bad maybe an extra £16 a week for 160 miles???

Welcome along & as others have said, drive both boxes see what works best for you. You should factor in £2k for a clutch change on a MC-S too, they can last anything from 10k to 50k miles so you should check the wear reading and when it was last changed.

As for the mpg, they can get into the low teens but that tends to be if you don't drive it regularly and when you do, you tend to hammer it a bit. If it's used often and driven reasonably sensibly, there's no reason why you can't get closer to 20

Good luck in your search, there are plenty around and it's a buyer's market for sure

Balance the fuel costs against the better depreciation...Man Marhs.

Haha already done this it's good to hear that it's possible to get above 15mpg with normal driving...I'll be using it as a DD with just a short commute to work I imagine it will only get driven how it should be when on the right roads!

Didn't know about the clutch though..replacement after 10k that's crazy!!!!

That's worst case, racing and or in town driving. Just had mine done at 44k miles, it was the original one. Don't worry about it!

Yes - I went from a 335i (which probably was averaging 23-25mpg), to my GTS (which is the Auto with a Sports pack), and now average around 13mpg (as I do a lot of town driving)....

Good luck. I just bought a 4.7 so I hear you. Suspect you'll have to pay a bit over 35k to get a decent S but I might be wrong

That red interior would take some getting used to though. Looks like a road rage special

Is there something wrong with that car? It seems to have been for sale for a good while, its been mentioned on here on more than one occasion. As far as I can see its a 4.7 with very sensible miles at a good price. Personally I love the interior/colour scheme combo. Someone get it bought it keeps looking at me!
