Hi All,

I just wanted to see if anyone has used or had any experience with Activ8 lubricant additive. A friend at work is claiming a significant increase in fuel economy from 31 mpg to 40 mpg (albeit a diesel). I am sceptical about this and just wanted to get other peoples thoughts on it.

No seriously. All these things are snake oil. That one is particularly easy to disabuse.

Use the right oil and change it :)

Thanks for responses. I have no intention of using it on my car but wanted to check to see what the general consensus was. I agree with you and think that All products of this nature should be avoided

I have to assume you are not talking about 31 out of a Masser...........its kind of rude to even ask what kind of MPG you get ...thats for tree hugging Prius owners.
No offence meant, I am sure Prius is a lovely car.

Nope. I posted a similar question about it a year or two ago and subsequently did some research on it to check its credentials, which seem fairly sound in a general way, but not in higher performance applications. Plenty of opinion, but no substance.

i chose not to proceed, but I have three colleagues who swear by it. Two running motorbikes and one running a diesel van.

All the (quick) research I did indicated it was useless in car engines, and actually banned from being added to produced oil as it creates hydrochloric acid when burned as well as other nasty pollutants.

Any idea what data they have to make them swear by it, or is it just perception?

Cheers
