A couple of 4200 spec questions

Hi

I keep seeing cars avertised as facelift cars. I can plainly see that sometime in 03 or 04 the alloy wheels changed but what were the other changes in spec?

Why do some have what look like cup holders in the centre console and some have an ashtray and lighter? Was it an option?

I can see in many photos that there is some kind of chrome badge on the ashtray lid, (mine doesn't) but none of the pics are detailed enough to see what it reads? Is it the Maserati script?

Thanks in advance.

A cup holder signifies a facelift car, nov 04 onwards on a 54 plate. They're around £4k dearer than a pre-facelift. You get different, bigger grille, updated hardware and software on the gearbox, and they're close to a Gransport underneath. Have a look on my gallery page of my website and you'll see a few facelift cars I have sold. There are only 4 for sale at present, the red one I have, one at £27995 at Meridien, one in Bristol with 64000 miles and the black one at Adg. Having said that, there were many gradual improvements made with the cars between '02 and '04, notably gearbox again and Sport button instead of Power and msp in place of ASR. I could go on for hours, different aerials, wheels, etc, Maserati never make it straightforward.

A true face lift car has the revised GS rear bumper with side vents. If it does not have these then its a pre face lift, or had a bump.

There are as Dicky says many revised ones.

The chrome on the ashtray does, indeed, say Maserati.
Well, mine does.
Well, mine *would* except it's a bit broken and says 'Maser' Which is fine too :)

Thanks that all seems to make sense. So in essence makes my 03 car a pre-facelift although it has the later wheels, MSP, a sport button and no rear wing aerial but no cup holder and the earlier bumper. Thanks for the info as I kept being asked if it was the facelift and was unsure. It is obviously some kind of halfway house mongrel :)

Three really, visually:
02 'Classico' rear wing aerial, ASR
03-04 'Pre-facelift' No aerial, MSP
04-end 'Facelift' bumpers, cup holder

The difference between 'Sport' or 'Power' button is not age related. 'Sport' if skyhook suspension, 'Power' if no skyhook suspension. Although skyhook was optional, I think it was more a 'delete' option in the UK hence 99% if not all UK cars have skyhook and hence the 'Sport' button.
You can't go on the wheels either, the early multispoke wheels could be selected instead of the later 5 spoke wheel if you wanted on later cars.

Mine says "serati" which is unfortunate, but I think I've cared about it twice since I started driving her.

Good to hear, thanks for the info.
I assumed that's the case, but i was confused by the talks about the "maserati" writing on the ash tray. I don't have that on the car, but i guess it fell off at some point.

Regarding GS CambioCorsa and ECU sofware. Can they be written on the Coupe hardware?

Yup, the script on the ashtray is fragile beyond belief...like a butterflys wing....plus you got to buy complete ash tray !!
