Is it the car that belonged to Tim Kirby near Derby? He was on the old forum, traded in for a Boxster Spyder. I understand what the debate is about, it's simple; it's not a 4200 Spyder nor is it a Gransport Spyder, it's a hybrid somewhere in the middle, so there's no point trying to categorise it as one or the other, it's a 90th Anniversary Spyder :)
Regards exact spec, it's so typically Maserati to release a car like this, they're probably not aware of the exact spec themselves!

I'm intrigued! If the face lift cars had most of the GS software and suspension updates and we can see that it has the GS body kit, exhausts, interior and wheels, what else is there to change? IMO, it is a whole lot nearer to a GS than it is to a 4200. Perhaps it is a final development car with a bit of extra carbon fibre.

Bennyd It does have valved rear boxes. I think the main difference is in the engine management system as the Gs has slightly more BHP

IIRC, the extra power of the GS came from the exhaust and ECU software, so if the GS ECU, which controls the valves, was fitted it should be exactly the same as a GS.

Its also not a Grandsport as per the ad.

79/90 was sold by Graypaul when I was looking for a GS - the owner is on MaseratiForum.

I agree with Andy - while its as near as can be, its not a GranSport, its a 4200. I'd struggle to tell you what this doesnt have that a GS does (I'd guess lower suspension, faster gear changes and possibly valved back boxes on the GS?), so its arguably a moot point, but at the end of the day, this was produced before the GS Spyder and was never sold/marketed as a GS.

Gransport has more power..OK only 10BHP......Which is not much...

Andy, where does the extra power come from? I thought it was as per post #25.

Apart from the shape Dem.....Its a very pretty car though I must say...Love the colour inside and out........Wonder if the rear bubbles would come off...Still can not get used to them.

Its a GS.....no 42 about it

I have to agree.

Can anyone tell me does the GS Spyder have carbon fibre hood lid and colour coded seat backs. Apart from that the only difference I could see was the US spec front wing badges.

The one thing that does concern me is the fact the driver is using it in auto; if s/he uses it all the time, how much clutch is left?

I'd guess so. It was a GP Notts car and the only one I remember seeing on MF was 79/90. Can't me many in the UK at all.

Re the GS/4200 argument, what does it say on the logbook?

As Dicky says, this car was owned by someone called Tim on Maserati Forum (username Slatie)....I recall him buying it about 18 months ago.
