4200 throttle not returning to idle...

I ask another stupid questuion, because yesterday, while driving my 4200 Coupe Cambiocorsa, the car did not want to stop moving in front of a red stop light..... When pressing both paddles, and entering neutral, I noticed that the throttle was around 1200 rpm,. and sometimes went as high up to 1500 rpm and the engine diagnostic light was on... With the Cambocorsa system this is quite "interesting" because the car does not want to dis-engage the clutch and make a stop when I want the car to stop! Have you ever experienced this and what is wrong? Thanks.

A racing idle could be many a thing.
OBD reader as Chris says is your first point of call.

I had this on my 4200. It just needed a **** good thrashing to sort.

Could be a few things as C and Capes have said you need to get it on a diagnostic.... but I would start with checking for vacuum leakes on the intake. A split in the rubber boot can make the idle go a bit mad and give the throttle a mind of its own. Not experienced this in the maserati but it happened while on my morning commute in my 330i once it wasn't fun to drive to work and back!
