Haven't seen that - at first glance it looks like the one advertised on eBay recently - but that was a manual with 59k miles.

Not sure about the tan carpets; I reckon they should be dark blue. I'm sure it could be a good buy for someone.

Nice combo...worth a indie inspection to see what actually is the problem(s).........a snip even if £1k to spend....and has a decent history

Its reasonable enough but I am scared it could be a money pit. Why does the seller not get it fixed for his quoted £800 then sell the car for a lot more?

Tania......go and have a look at it if you want see what a "bad" one looks like....get your eye in at least..............then if a lot of things stack up......and you like it.......get an indie inspection..... £250 or so......if he tells you it costs £1k-2-3-4 to get back to "fixed" condition, use as a negotiating measure..........thoughts?

Nope its a long way from me and quite frankly I do not have the guts to go see it even if it was local. You should be on commission from Maserati, you are better than me at sales. :)

This is I think the one that was sold at the Brooklands Classic Auction in September for around £9k.

I went down to look at its and was told that it was a finanace recovery that has been stood for 4 years. The person that brought the car may have done some work on it but when I inspected it it had the following defects, The egine would fire but not run a mechanic who had looked at it for the auction house told me is was the ignition switch, I was told the gearbox had an electrical fault and would not selct gears, It had a rip in the hood and needed a new cover, the hood would not lower, the passenger window did not lower, the drivers door frame seal was torn, it needed 4 new tyres and a wheel reburb, it had various chips and scratches in the paintwork, and the doors had some small dents, the heat shields beneath the boot needed tidying and the seats and interior needed some work.

Although by looking at the interior you would have thought the mileage was incorrect when I checked the tyres i identified the front michelins and were 2002 and the rears 2006 so i think the mileage is probably correct. The mechanic who I spoke to and said he had had the car running and the engine was fine. I had intended to bid for the car uo to £7k but something come up which mean't I could not attend on the Saturday.

More a case of buyer avoid, even at that price. It could cost a fortune just to get the hood repaired and working properly.

Nothing worse for a car than being stood still for period of time.
Even if you get the faults mentioned sorted I think any new owner will be forever plagued with niggly, costly faults.

Benny is spot on the hood is a very expensive item, a new cover is £2986 plus vat and fitting. Eurospares had a 2nd hand one in stock at half price but even then the budget I put together at the time I looked at the car was,

2nd hand Hood plus fitting £2000
Hood raise not working fault ( allowed £200 for parts and help)
Door Rubber £500 ( 2nd hand new 950 plus vat.)
Wheels and tyres and wheel nuts £1200
Gea box and ignition issues £3,000 allowance for a new clutch in this price.
Near side door not working £100 for parts ) it droped for door opening so I assumed the motor was OK.
Service parts oil, filters plugs etc £300 assuming work done by myself
Paintwork £1,000 assuming dents were done by myself and a friend who is a panelbeater.
Total £7,300. allow 10% contingency and you would need £8k with the possibility of saving £2k if you could sort out engine and gearbox and they were only electrical issues for £1k you could still spend £6k on top of purchase price and have a car with low miles but no history.
