A drunk Maf pointed out on Sunday morning after our 12.5 hour liver kicking session that my car was sitting down slightly on one side . I assumed it was his eyeballs and that he had put them in upside down . But on closer inspection he may be right for once ;P

I have a late 4200 facelift which do tend to sit quite high . I can get 4 finger between the tyre and the arch on one side and three on the other . I though it might be a broken rear spring , but its both front and back on one side sitting low ???

So could it be the active ride? does it actually change the height of the car whilst adjusting at speed?

..answers on a post card ;)

No...the Sky Hook just changes the damper settings. The springs can be wound up or down to balance the car but also remember the lump of lard in the drivers seat also changes the stance when in use.

Have you got fatter fingers on one hand ? :)

I would measure the gap with a ruler on a level surface with sport mode off and also with sport mode on and see what the actual difference is.

Alcohol can have a profound effect on the brains ability to interpret visual information correctly. A princes at 3am can easily become an Austin princess in the cold light of day :)

EnzoMC (Darren) had this happen on the way to Modena for the Centenary, it was a Skyhook failure, PM him to see what the fix was.

It was a new shock I believe and his car was scraping going round corners.

If it's been corner balanced in the past, the last thing you *should* expect is it to be sitting level with no one in it (depending on how it was balanced). Of course that's not the way our minds work.

I had this with the silver GS which we resolved by adjusting the ride height and setting up differently, there was no mechanical issue. Phil Kyle's thoughts (which I find plausible but only just) where that the cars ride height is adjusted to left hand drive roads, with a slight factory height difference from one side to the other. As I said, plausible, and he was quite adamant however i'm not so sure...

should i measure the amount of turn on the nuts each side ? i was thinking of having it wound down to GS hieght any way . Might kill two birds with one stone ? wise or not ?

I guess it is plausible that all the cars were set up for LHD camber of the roads... but it would seem to be odd given they would notice when building the thing that its RHD.

If you do drop the hight you will need to look at 4 wheel alignment.

Phil was adamant Peter. Given Maserati and their little nuances, setting up cars for non-Italian markets may not be on their priority list!

Wind it down Martyn, then get it set up on a Hunter machine at worst, full corner weighting at a track set up specialist if you can stomach the extra cash.

My 4200 Facelift was the same - I had Giallo adjust it to GS settings when they did the geometry - definitely an improvement in ride and looks even though its only 10mm change!

I guess the benefits of this on the 4200 are ++ as you get a better cosmetic look and better handling without the GS disadvantaged of the GS s crashy ride due to the 4200 bigger tyres.
