Hello all,
I was wondering at what temp does the low & high speed fan start at?

Also at what temp does the thermostat open..

This info would be vital so I won't be chasing my own tail with the water temperature & fan start up times

I've an ultragauge permanently plugged into the OBDII port so I have a constant readout of engine temperature.
Not sure of low and high speed fan operation, but for sure if I leave her on tickover on the drive, the fans certainly operate at high speed when 96 degree C is reached and the temperature then drops to 92 if I recall correctly before they cut out.
Are you sure there is a low and high speed setting? could be a low with the a/c, not sure with the engine temperature.

Yes the fan is two speed. Two relays under the bonnet control speed 1 and speed 2. Have a look at page 167 and 168 in your 4200 manual for the location. As for the exact temp they kick in i have no idea but mikes suggestion sounds about right.

Thanks for the clarification guys.

same with me..
When idling My low fan starts a tad past 90 than gets to 95 and high speed fan kicks in..

only difference might be it stays at 95 when car is idle.. and reaches 100 during heavy traffic.
Maybe because my radiator is less efficient or probably just the hot summer air being pulled in

I guess no point in replacing the resistor, sensor, thermostat..

My remidy now will be to install a manual fan switch so I can start the low speed at 85c & hi-speed at 90c if needed..

If it hits 100, you might want to look at getting the thermostats changed.

Mine never got near 100. Certainly doesn't in the GT. Or any other car I've had for that matter.
