4200 early vs late gerabox

Me again with more, no doubt, stupid questions.

I've been looking about and learning as much as possible as I prepare for the arrival of a 4200 CC but I'm getting slightly conflicting information regarding the gearbox.

1 - Can someone categorically tell me if the gearbox in the 2002-2003 cars can be 'reprogrammed' to behave like a late 2003-on car?
2 - Are the internals the same?
3 - Once 're-flashed' does it behave in exactly the same way as the later models? IE smoother, less jerky changing.

I've been filtering out all the cars from early 2003 thinking they can't have the gearbox re-flashed but I've read a thread on here saying they can be .
I've been out in a 52 plate car and although it was very 'different' to what I'm used to, coming from a full manual, it didn't seem so bad and as I'd be on my own in it most of the time who cares!

To be fair the joy of cambio corsa is the way it is never use auto as it wares the clutch out.
Having done a few miles in my 360 F1 now it makes my 4200 seam really smooth but for me as a driver i love the harshness of the 360 and it changes up and down so quickly.
My wife prefers the Maserati for comfort.
In answer to your question im sure the boxes are the same and the software can be altered.
Phil.

Yep pretty sure I was talking to an owner of an early car the BIAMF and he had just had his early 4200 updated to the newer code.

I don't have a problem with the change speed or jerkiness in sports mode however in Sports mode don't try heavy traffic it will lurch you into the back of someone one day! In normal mode (manual) the changes and clutch pick up take forever (seemingly) but heavy traffic is manageable. I used to use auto in non-sports mode from cold and in the city but probably haven't used auto at all for well over two years.

Mine's a March 03 build and I have no idea what software...

Can this upgrade be done by any of the specialists that have the relevant diagnostic equipment or is it a dealer only job. If anyone has had it done, what was the cost?

You can re-flash up but never back. Give Myles or Martin a call at Emblem and they will talk you through it.

IMO I prefered the updated 2004 version above the 2005 and the GS 2006 version...all have different delivery but the first was the best mix.

On the early 02-03 hardware gearbox ecu there is only one software upgrade possible.
On the subsequent hardware gearbox ecu, there are several software upgrades that are possible.
Some have flashed the early ecu to the only upgrade possible, and wished they hadn't! The original is apparently harsher, more sporting, and the later softer...which may not suit you.
Also I believe the later drops the downshift engine blips, which is pure pleasure in my view!
I have also heard it is possible to fit the later gearbox ecu to the early car.
This is all difficult when buying a car, not easy to know what's fitted/upgraded.

Yep I've never taken my car there but I've certainly called Miles and had a good chat with him and asked advice on issues etc and they have always had time for me!

Done! What a helpful and friendly chap Martin was. Very happy and mind settled.
If you come across a car with the original software , I know a member who would happily swap the ecu with you he has been looking for one for ages. He's is the updated version , apparently there are very rare now as most of the dealers loaded the update soft ware from new thinking it was much better , I for one would love to have a double blip on the down change , lovely .

I assume you don't have the down change blip and thus you are on the 'upgraded' software?

What do you mean the latest version doesn't blip the throttle on downshifts? Whithout rev matching it should be jerky as helll
