the larini decats are pretty expensive. am i right in thinking that i could remove the cats and get some 'strait thru pipes' custom made much cheaper?

and if i did this how would i feel/here any benefit with the standard back boxes or would i have to upgrade the too??

You could do that, but if you are in the UK the car would be illegal and fail tests..!! You could get the Larini 200 Cell Cats and replace OE, that would improve exhaust flow no end..!!

I previously had some sports cats with standard back and centre sections. There was a difference to fully stock exhausts, but not great. Throttle response sounded a bit better on mine, more free revving. You will get better results going for both 200 cell cats and an unsilenced centre (x-pipe or h-pipe) as that will really unleash the noise better. X will give a louder but metallic sound with lots of crackle and pop...h will give a loud sound with better bass and less of the popping. If you still don't think it's loud enough you can then play with the back boxes.

Or do what I did in the end, a full custom exhaust.

Find a good local exhaust specialist, someone who understands the airflows and how to tune it for performance and/or noise and get their help.

I bet, it's a big step with so much to do and everything to forget until near the end, you will make it buddy..!!

Well, I'm also working on two projects for a large UK client at the same time...both are like trying to eat wet spaghetti with one chop-stick without getting sauce down your nice clean shirt.

Lost my rag with some guy who basically came round to tell me how pretty Doris is and what a lovely noise she makes (like I need a to5ser like him to tell me that)...after 40 minutes he thanked me and told me he never had any intention of buying...so now I just want to move on and get on with my life!

Rant over

the sports cats are still 2.5k!! if i remove them and get someone to fabricate some pipes to close the gap that will cost what max 500 quid??

(obviously id put the cats bk for MOT)

might look at an x-pipe

I did exactly what you have described above by removing the 600 cell cats and replacing with straight pipes and the difference was barely noticeable, so I got some Larini rear boxes to release the Maserati sound :capricorn:

Didn't you get emissions issues?

hmm ok might not bother then.

but just an x pipe would make a difference?

or surely custom decat + xpipe and and standard rear boxes would make a difference?

also who did you get to do your custom decat simon and how much was it.

I got a local exhaust shop to cut off the secondary cats and resonator (kept the x section) and replace with straight pipe. All in $400 and the sound is heaps better. I also put some GS boxes on mine

That made a difference for me...a sort of half-way house.

In the end I think the biggest volume difference comes from the back boxes - either replacing with sports boxes or removing some of the silencing.

Personally I think the back box (or lack of) from Marios at Autoshield is a bargain!
Big improvement in sound and a fraction of the price of your Larini permutations!
Give him a call!

I paid GBP550 plus postage, worth every penny. Increase in volume and noticeably smoother under throttle.
I drive with the window open all the time but there is a slight increase in the cabin resonance when the windows are closed.

Is that for Marios boxes?

When I picked up the car they were being fitted at same time along with a few other bits and pieces so difficult from memory to be too specific but I think it was about £700 . May have been a bit less?
I don't have neighbours and I like my Italian bikes loud as well but in truth this is loud enough for me!
Heads turning on start up from 50 meters suggest they can hear it!!!
