Hi members

I am wanting to remove the climate control console for possible replacement on my 4200 CC coupe. Think the hot/cold dial is playing up. Can anyone advise on the procedure for removing trim etc. I'm guessing removal of the reverse console first is necessary and assume this just clips in to the facia.

Any advice on the procedure /ease of removal would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all

If the hot and cold are 'playing up' you might have a bigger problem than you think. Is it the airflow either full hot or full cold? Have you any control over the temp or the airflow direction? Is the outside air temp still visible on the console? If not, it could be the servo motors that are at fault. If they are, its an ocean-going, fur-lined, b!tch-fest of a job. The centre console has to come out, the windscreen surrounds, the dash top, the dashboard needs to be unfastened and moved forward at the very least, and the servo motors can then be seen, hidden behind the fixed metal air-con pipes. To get to them you need fingers of a midwife which you can dislocate at will and have the innate ability to work upside down whilst pretty much blind. Personally, having done this job, I would change both motors at the same time as having to go through it all again so soon, is a one way ticket to the nut-house. It's as though they hung the two servos on sky-hooks and built the car around them. I wish you well and hope it is something else at fault. Have fun!

I had this early this year. Basically my heater would only work on full heat via the max demister switch on the directional knob. The temperature knob wouldn't work and the display showed 15 deg. So I had a choice of max heat on the screen, freezing cold everywhere else, and the fan speed would work on all speeds.

As I had full heat on the max demister setting I worked out that it was likely the temperature knob that was at fault, and not anything more serious internally within the dash.

I bought a second hand control panel for £200 and it worked.

To remove the control panel; remove the reverse lever panel, prise out the sat nav/radio screen (you can see the 4 indents where you need to put a flat head screwdriver, 2 each side). Once the screen and the reverse panel are out you can remove the 4 screws that hold the main button panel in place. Disconnect the electrical connectors and it's just a couple more screws that hold the control panel in place on the back of the main facia.

Hope that helps mate.

I was as mad as a ships cat before I started, now I'm so bat-sh!t crazy I've started converting my car into a 3200. I hope the voices in my head stop arguing, before that happens!

Ha ha, thanks for the info Benny. Yes the outside temp is still visible. Was getting an 'E' error occasionally on the dash. Have done the reset procedure ( ac button and re-circ button together). No fault code displayed. Was blowing hot when temp dial on cold. Gave the dial (feels like its sticking/dirty contact) a good pull, tug and twist to the cold position again then miraculously went to cold. Now cant get it off cold unless I select max demist, then it blows hot. Grrrr. Was guessing it may be a dodgy rotary dial of the hot/cold knob. Trying to avoid hefty bill at the specialist/dealer.

I had no codes and my outside temperature sensor is new.

My temp knob felt like it was scraping inside when the fault appeared.

Same symptoms as yours though prior to me fixing it.

Gingeh721 - Your symptoms sounded exactly like I have described above. Thank's for sharing your fault/solution. The reverse lever panel, does it just pop out? I used a small screwdriver earlier to lever the base, but only one side popped out. The right hand side was tightly fixed and I didn't want to prise too hard in case I caused any damage? I'm guessing my fault is the temp knob same as the problem you had. Guess 2nd hand panel is in order unless there is any place that repairs these??

The reverse lever is fixed in with two push in clips. Be careful, but just get your fingers under it and slowly pull it out from the base. It will come out eventually.

Hope you get it sorted. I was flapping and praying that it was just the control panel. Thankfully it was.

I'm not sure if they can be repaired mate. I just went with gut feeling and bought a replacement.

Thanks Gingeh. I had spotted this on ebay earlier. Does the reverse lever panel just prise out? I struggled earlier today, left leg was free but right hand side would come free. Maybe I wasn't levering enough.

No worries. Yes to your question. I was pretty cautious on the first go but once I just got annoyed with it and increased the pressure, with a little bit of wiggling, it came lose. It's surprisingly heavy for a small part!

I hope you got it sorted mate. Anytime.
