Guys , you can have a filter in for a year and it will look new , the filter in this car I would say has not been replaced for 2/3 years .

It sounds as you have a piston problem , if it's only piston problem it's not a major problem .

If I can help just ask and I will do all I can to do so .

I took out a pair of filters from a 3200 (Similar build to that filter) that was garaged for at least the last 7 years and they did not look nearly as bad as yours.
That filter does not have 6000 miles for sure /1 year for sure

It's a shame that I already threw mines in the bin otherwise I would have taken a picture.

That is pretty manky. The rotten base looks suspicious, like there was standing water inside the filter box for a long time. I would definitely be going back to whoever said they changed it and asking questions until I believed the answer. If no satisfaction, I'm sure we would all like to know who to avoid in the future.

I have a full set of 4200 pistons and liners, used, if you need anything just shout.

In fact I have a complete engine to be made into a coffee table.

Well I know my air filter is at least 5 years old and in far better condition, I've not changed it as it will be redundant when I put an induction on it... It has surface rust only, has done 30k or there abouts; not proud of that fact but good evidence for sure! I think you have a case there...
