Thanks to Dem took delivery of a leased Golf GTD.
Being a typical man I don't read instructions but trying to fathom the adaptive cruise control I surrendered and took out the manual. Does anyone seriously read this from cover to cover?
The sat nav has a separate manual.
I had thought maybe it was in 4 different languages but nope...just one. Is this normal these days?

Well it should help while away those winter evenings.

Aparantly personal leasing is mainly responsible for the growth in our new car sales.

I am a great beleiver in this, why tie up a load of cash in something you are going to use for a couple of years then trade in for a younger model.

It could work for marriages too you know :)

I have read you can lease them by the hour

As Tom Cruise said in jack reacher when approached by an attractive young girl

Sorry I can't afford you

I'm not a hooker

Then I really can't afford you

My B220 has adaptive cruise control and some auto braking thing , never fathomed the adaptive cruise but the auto braking works

Yesterday a car was turning right in front of me , I did my usual ease off he'll be gone by the time I get there judgement call which has worked fine for the last 35 years but not anymore

Beep Beep slam on the brakes ,abs on, me thinking WTF is happening

At least I know it works

I don't read the manual cover to cover, but I do tend to a few sections of it, and then delve in to find things I can't figure out by the trial and error approach.

For instance I'll read the engine care bit in case there's something specific they mention. This comes from owning an RX-8 where if you started, moved a short distance, stopped, without following the manual you flooded the engine and needed a call to Mazda assist to sort it out. I never suffered this, read the manual first, but had a call from the person I sold it to the day after asking why the car wouldn't start. After confirming the short move I told them to call Mazda ;)

I've got the manual for the Ghibli on the phone, and have referred to it from time to time. Though the way that it gets updated almost makes it not worth it.

Adaptive cruise is easy, you press the button on the stalk and then set the distance you want it to maintain. It's amazing, my Dad has it on his new Golf and I've got to say it works so well, almost drives the car for you, when they followed me on the last road trip into France he said it made it so easy following me.

It sounds both good and bad, its one thing to have all of these aids but imo it runs the risk of people paying less attention to what is going on around them and instead relying on the car to take car of it all. Who is at fault if the adaptive cruise doesn't work? They have it on the MY17 four door Maseratis but having it means that you get a plastic badge :(

Not at al sure that this continual drive to divorce the driver from the experience, and required input of driving is a good thing.

But I have no data.

The GT manual can't be much less than 400 pages

C

<edit: Actually it might be!>
I would expect a lengthy tome for a GT....but a Golf?
As a daily driver it is surprisingly good. Lots of toys that Maserati charge extra for and is well put together.
Handles well and is fairly quick and economical.
VW subsidised the deal and at £130pm for 2 years and 10k pa it takes a lot of beating.
Even has a "sport" button!! (not tried it yet...might spit me off the road with all the power in it!!lol)

£130pm for a diesel GT Golf?

Estate GTD.
I really couldn't have cared less what I got as long as it had cruise control (regular 120 miles of speed cameras!) and economical.
Dem's folk were doing deals on these and didn't realise just how well specced they were.
A lot of the deals for leasing were on 5k pa which is no use for me.
Definitely lots of deals out there if you look around. At this monthly cost why buy? Think car is about £29k list new. What is that worth after 2 years?
Best news is that now I have this I can look at getting a GT or similar again. :)

29k for a golf, that's because all they want to do is lease them out , crazy money for a family estate car

My opinion is the value of the car at 3 years with 24k on it is the production cost so the 3 year lease is the profit

In 2001 I imported a transit from Belgium, the difference between list in the UK and what I paid in Belgium was 9k or then the price of a focus

Car prices are inflated to make the leases look cheap , who in their right mind would write a cheque out for 29k or anything like it for a golf

Agreed. Other half had Minis in the past but you can easy get over £20k by time you spec them and it is still just a Mini.
Fact is leases can be "cheap". Price I am paying for this was less than some deals on likes of 1.0 Fiestas.

Just had a call from Alfa about the QF and my local dealer only have a demo in which is not theirs and thety want to keep the mileage under 30 so they can sell it as new! Looking at £10k down, 2% APR and £749 a month over 3 years. GFV on pcp deal shows £22k at 12k miles per year.
