Or why not just enjoy the car as Maserati intended - it is a Maserati after all with 390HP and not a Ford Fiesta...

Hmmm. Posting that in a thread about modifications is a bit like going to a Japanese restaurant and asking for a ploughmans!

OEM cars have compromises. Restrictive cats, suspension that might give too much roll for some people's tastes, iffy brakes. What does the car that Maserati 'intended' to build have to do with anything? Are you saying these guys are geniuses who get every aspect of a vehicle spot on? It's a beautiful car with a great engine, but I want it to breathe better, corner in more neutral, flatter manner and stop consistently for a few laps on the track. As I said, I don't want to alter the fundamental character of the car, just make some subtle improvements.

An old Alfa specialist used to tell me two things:

If you want to go faster learn to drive properly

and

If you want to get there first leave earlier

Sound advice. especially as the first time he told me this was when he was blasting past Devils **** in his Alfa 164 Bimotorie which at the time was running 2 3.0 V6 engines

A shame that you don't have a 3.2 Bi turbo that can quite easily go +100bhp. :)

A 3.2 but on aftermarket well set up ECU would be fantastic.

Do you know what the 3200 run as stock with correct valve timing? Basically mine and a few others here as standard cars have recorded 406-410bhp on the rollers. I am going to take mine down to Charlie at SRR once I get my Larinis on and see what it makes.

I had my valve timing corrected on my old 3200 when I had the rear chains done. There was a noticeable difference to the power of the car. Never had it measured on a rr, though.

So a stock 3200 runs more power than a stock 4200. I reckon with a full straight through setup and valve timing done you could easily see 425hp.

Add a remap to up the boost a little and 475hp is not out of the question.

We used to get 420hp out of this old thing and that was 25 years ago...dave49.jpg
Running 1.5 bar boost on a 3200 plus a few other mods would get you around the 500hp!
