Hey guys,

With regards to getting these actuators off the car, how hard is it and how do you do it? I was told that my AC has broken the gear on the RHS actuator and the left hand side was faulty.....I can't seem to work out how to actually take it off though, I don't want to force it and break it off....

Cheers

The hardest part is getting to the units. The RHS (on a UK car) is under the washer bottle and you need to remove that first and the LHS is under the ABS pump/module.

To remove it just unclips as per the picture in workshop manual.

Pull the clip that holds it into the shock cup and the motor should simply pull off

As per my post on page one, get them sent here for repair, just check your shock is not seize with caused the nylon gear to break. It should twist very freely between finger and thumb quarter of a turn in each direction.

When you pull the actuator, simply rattle it and if it sounds like there is dried pea in there, the gear has broken.

This guy replaces the nylon gears with milled metal parts and the service, quality and price are second to none and they are better than the OEM units.

I found that if you put your fingers on the actuator and then got someone to turn the ignition on and off that you could feel the motor unit rotating the actuator. I think that you can gain better access to the nearside unit by removing the power steering reservoir from its securing clip.
