3200 Running costs ?

I'd be interested to see what other forum members are spending on average yearly to keep their 3200's on the road.

I've done a forum search for 3200 running costs and nothing comes up that's recent..

Seriously considering a 3200GTA Auto and happy to spend around 1-1.5k a yr on bits for 2000-3000 mileage that I do a year. Figures seem to vary widely from hardly anything at all to I had to sell a kidney to run it!
I was under the impression that with salvaged or rebuild parts, cheaper independent specialists it was feasible to run the cars for less. A lot of the horror stories years ago had expensive repairs with main dealers I've assumed.

Looking on pistonheads it's not uncommon to see adverts with 7k recently spent on both 3200 + 4200! I mean I've seen private jets have a cheaper service! If I needed to drop 3k+ into a car in a single year, then it's probably not the car for me.

Hi, my costs roughly. 1st year £500ish normal service, 2nd year £2,500 major service, cambelt, plus pulleys water pump etc. 3rd year £800ish sevice, plus couple of hoses. Prior to me getting the car, previous owner, £2400 discs pads all round, and handbrake repairs. So budget £1500/year I'd say. Keep om top of any little jobs as once they build up can become very costly. Hope this helps.

Only had mine a year and a few months. Prior to me getting it, it had £3k worth of brakes, some hoses plus all Maserati (expensive and unnecessary) discs and pads all round.
Me, I use Mike Roberts at http://www.maseratished.co.uk/ service £300, cambelt £400... I have spend £1300 ish last year (including thermostat, gearbox service, cambelt, service, MOT and a couple of minor things) and had nothing go wrong yet elsewise. I will have a service in March when he gets it through the MOT for me... he has fixed price work on his website to show costs... as for fuel, that's another matter, but the mileage you suggest that won't be an issue, though I intended doing relatively few miles in mine, I ended up doing 7000 in the first year, and it's only a weekend car!

First year about 2.5k (Throttle Body Upgrade, Cambelt and Service, Exhaust Work, Pedal Sensor, crank sensor, brake caliper, brake lines, brake hoses, thermostat).
Second year about 3k. (New Lower Arm, ABS ECU, Handbrake Sheath, MAP Sensor, 4 Wheel Alignment, 5 tyres (don't ask), shock absorber refurb)

I would factor about 3k per year personally but like anything any job can come up at any time on there cars. Thank God I don't use this as a daily driver!

After buying mine on a whim (always wanted one) I would not buy one now without having an inspection done at a reputable specialist like Emblem or Autoshield. It is about 3 hours labour cost but believe me it will save you money in the long run. If anyone says they don't want the car inspected by them I would simply walk away.

If only I had done that on my car it would have saved me about 4k in work so far.

Hi Neil.
Allan pretty much on the nose with that average 1.5k yearly budget figure for service and consumables........the trick is to get a good one in the first place. Good GTAs are becoming rarer beasts to find but if found and you stay on top of the little things they are no more expensive to run than any other top of the tree car IMO.
Edit: I should also add, like phil, the importance of either getting an Indy inspection if the car is not known or if you are lucky like me, finding one that was serviced by an Indy prior to sale so you see what needs done. Good luck.

I forgot, two tyres, £300 (I think, poor memory) pair of Michelins on the rear...

Almost 12 months to the day and just under 6000 miles for my 3200. So far all I've had to change is an aircon rad, dryer filter and regas outside of normal servicing. It was bought through Dicky, inspected and serviced by Autoshield before I took delivery. Flew through MOT and will need a pair of front tyres fairly soon. Total cost thus year about £1300 give or take a little.

Corrected, cambelt replacement is £400 with Mike... not £600, poor memory again!

All of the above have recent, useful experience so take these as a good guide. I think it's fair to say that you can budget around £1.5k per year average, but there are years when you WILL spend more. The newest 3200 is 13 years old this year, the oldest 17. They are ageing supercars and still mostly cost supercar prices to repair and maintain. Put into context, my 4-year old Alfa 159 had a £1,700 service and repair bill last year!!!

Should have went for the GT mark ;)

I had one about 4 years ago, great car. This time around I wanted something with 4 doors and couldn't get remotely excited by anything on offer from Germany, Sweden etc. I bought the car knowing I'd be having the cambelt and water pump changed in my ownership as I wanted to delete the swirl flaps and EGR. There were a couple of bits I hadn't accounted for and I also had Auto Lusso fit their Polybush upgrade which has transformed the handling of the car. Amazing how things add up!

Good cars though. I miss mine, but am patiently awaiting the arrival of the new Giuilia later this year.

i think i bought a project car so my car has cost me a bot more than the others here, but some repairs can be fierce. The suspension arms need replaced because of the ball joints and this is 400+ per arm with 6 all potential wear items. i have replaced my disks and pads and handbrake cable and all the brake hoses. I was quite unlucky i think as i had to replace both my turbos last year and this was not cheap. I think 1500 a year for regular wearing items and if you get a major problem its not going to be cheap. For routine maintenance 1500 a year will do it, and in 7 years i have owned my 3200 GTA i have also typically had another 1500 per year in larger problems, in bigger costs. so if you allow 3k per year but expect some larger jobs this will cover it.

So far so good. Both of them are great.

One thing is for sure, these cars take proper looking after and knowledgeable spannering. Mike Roberts has the proper Maserati diagnostics kit which is a must on these cars.

Certain parts are difficult to acquire and some parts require serious skills to get right without huge costs like the ETB

Interested to know peoples experience of going from a 3200 to a 4200 in terms of maintenance cost...

I'm thinking of 'side'-grading (not up or downgrading! :) from a 2002 3200 GT to an early 4200 GT...
