3200 Red Key / Extreme High Mileage

When I bought my AC last year, it only came with one black key but that was all resolved today when I spent a few hours with David Askew changing ECUs, locks and the ignition barrel. I'm nearly there, I just need to change the very tricky door locks. However, the car starts, locks and is alarmed so all good so far.

I was amazed to discover however that the car we took these items from which was a 2001 manual, had covered a staggering 178,000 miles before the engine gave out.

What a great advert for the bullet proof engineering that is the 3200!

Can I be the first to ask why you swapped the ECU? Was there a problem or did you just feel the need to have a red key?

I only had one black key. Two of us drive the car so it was not ideal & I wanted the ability to make a copy and was paranoid about losing my one key, or locking it in the boot, dropping it down a drain, or the key just failing ... I've never done this before but if ever it was going to happen, it would be when I have just one key.

The red key from this new set I have had been stored at the supplying dealer until last month and I have 2 black keys also so surely I'll be safe now!

Nice one Stu....I knew David wouldn't let you down....

Dave

Indeed, he's a good egg.
He still misses his old AC though, I'm sure that he would have it back if I was selling, which of course I'm not!
Cheers Dave

Yes now that crowd in Wales can't reprogram the immobiliser this is once again a bit of an issue. I once started my car up to let some one hear the engine and without thinking about it closed the drivers door which promptly locked. I was then forced to phone a good friend who gave me a lift to my house for the spare keys so i could open the door again. Had to leave the car sitting locked with the engine running for 30 minutes. If i had not got spares made!! what would i have done next?
